I don't subscribe to the WSJ either but happen to have the section with this article.
Will post some excerpts here later.

Re: Parkwyn Village ~ McCartney Residence for Sale

Whew, complicated roof. The architect must leave it to the builder to figure out in the field I guess. https://library.artstor.org/#/asset/28526146;prevRouteTS=1703605183109 (P.S. Note the blue banner on the website stating that Artstor will "retire" on August 1 2024 ... Looks like it's mi...

I do not cast aspersions on anyones individual circumstances. Renting is a valid choice.
But when the choice of ownership is eliminated - that's a horse of a different color.
This makes me physically ill:

Wow, great house and great link to the house website.
Yes - drawings very helpful.
I was surprised by the lack of interior wood.

What is this house that RG is referring to above? How do I look for it in the archives?

Re: Taliesin West

Need to correct a statement I remember making about the angled tent roofs of TWest on another thread which I can't locate. I made the remark that it seemed too literal to make a direct comparison of the angled roofs with the mountains beyond. Yet, reading Hildebrand, he locates a passage in An Autob...

Re: Ennis-Brown-Nesbitt

Thanks Roderick, much appreciate the information. The interiors sound ... unique to Wright, rich and intriguing. A black tiled bathroom by Wright?! Wow. Would love to see that. Is this the house used for Bladerunner or was it another textile block piece? The " minstrel balcony" is the name...

Re: Ennis-Brown-Nesbitt

A personal visit is probably required to understand this place.
Hildebrands description and photographs are the best i know of.
Seems Piranesi like.
The "minstrel balcony" over Mrs. Ennis's bathroom is curious.

Re: Ennis-Brown-Nesbitt

Today just read Hildebrand's discussion of Ennis. Roderick concurs on this thread and SDR has graciously posted most of what Hildebrand states. I've never given Ennis that careful a look. So this was a revelation for me. Are the archives the best place to see Wright's original intentions for this ho...

Re: Article: "Frank Lloyd Wright: Rebel Architect"

BTW, the colored overlays of the plans on that link which SDR put together are really great.
Seems like that page 9 might be one of the best ways to understand FW anywhere because of 'em !!
Thanks again SDR, had forgotten about all this.

Didn't mean to repeat, have not tracked the discussion as closely as I should. Found the diagrams on thread titled: Fallingwater Landscape Drawings. Page 9 has the diagram drawing in question. https://wrightchat.savewright.org/viewtopic.php?t=11533&hilit=Fallingwater+Landscape+Drawings&start...

Re: Article: "Frank Lloyd Wright: Rebel Architect"

Thanks for the references to Kauffman and Hoffman - helpful. So - the big beam bears on the south wall of the stair well and terminates under the west wall of EJ's room - very clear from these photographs and plans. Thrilling dance of weaving and balancing. .... just remembered that a number of year...

Absolutely Roderick. Romanticism is deep in Wright.
One reason his work is so magnetic and attractive I think.

Re: Article: "Frank Lloyd Wright: Rebel Architect"

"There are more balconies than one needs (does one ever need a balcony?), and its stone verticals and pale concrete horizontals tie it to the site so that it seems to grow from the rock (fig. 25). One of its finest touches is a section near the northwest terrace that appears to grip the stone a...
