So the outer 7" E/W channels have to be lower than the main 15" E/W beams. Seems obvious but I didn't realize this until re-reading your reply. So the N/S beam that balances on the prow holds up the west ends of the 7" outer E/W channels and in turn must be stabilized/balanced by them...

RG: I've had to be out all day, back now and it's bedtime routine with my 7 year old daughter. I'll return tomorrow. Thanks for the reply. It's a puzzle. Do you have a guess?

Robie Roof Framing

Got my Robie/Hoffman out now on page23 looking at the framing once again with a magnifying glass. (Would be nice to impose an alpha-numeric grid on this thing to have a common framework for discussion, but alas.) Anyway, is anybody clear on what's going on with the steel framing at the cantilevered ...

RG: Great story. I've always wanted to hear something like this but never did and I guess I never asked. In the "how to" books they don't talk about physical setup you know. I've never heard any kind of story like this in the Wright literature have you? The office of Louis Kahn did some in...

FLlW Perspective technique?

The renderings of Wright, the inimitable perspectives and the question of how he did it. Or maybe, in other words, the technique of constructing traditional 2 and 3 pt perspectives. This is something I don't feel like I've ever understood. I never seen someone actually construct these types of persp...

Hmmm. Is possible to post your Lamberson original roof framing plan from TWest on this thread?
Obviously lots of hard work and gorgeous results, thank you.

SDR: Thanks for the lead on Hildebrand. I'll need to look that book up. Joseph Conners big little book is one of my favorites on Wright. It's interesting in relation to the thread here to relate the form of the fireplace and screen to the development of the exterior chimney that Connor discusses. I ...

Having those two shots side by side is helpful, thanks. My personal preference for the absence of the column and screen distracts from the point. It is probable to prefer the the original scheme, as so precisely described above by RG, and still feel, for example, that the screen and bench are not we...
