Went to M2 to check this out. There the drawing does seem to be a little more clear. The channels connected to the major E/W IBeams appear to be called out there as 15" channels. This seems odd in that it seems it would be difficult for the channel to fit in between the flanges and connect smoo...

I've never read that book so this excerpt from it is much appreciated. Thanks. It does present the human side of Wright. And it is impossible for me to deny that Wright was a human being. I've never read the Autobiography all the way through or even on this time period. Probably should, but that wou...

I don't think Wright's historical position is in any danger of being diminished by a reassessment or a fuller appreciation of Mahony great architect or not. But it does interest me to hear another side of Wright's story in the puzzle of his personal ...make up. The gods of Olympus although supremely...

Looks like they are "spliced." Looks something like a 10" channel is spliced east of the brick piers to the 15" I-Beam and carries over to the N/S cross beam on the prow point. But in order for that cross beam to carry the 7" channels it must connect to the bottom of the cha...

I understand what you are saying. Now the 15" I-Beams are higher than the 7" outer channels: see page 32 Hoffmann. I'm sure now that is a known. And what you are saying is that the 15" beams are continuous over the square brick piers. Man those are long beams. Right?

Wasn't this a project for the San Francisco Chronicle? I can still remember a little bit of the feeling when I first saw this perspective. Still one of my favorite of Wright's. I'd like to see it built too of course.

Really great to see the Larkin District Plan and being able to locate the Administration building site in the photo aerials. After scanning the document it appears they are well aware of Wright's non-existent landmark on their site. Before now I would not have imagined that the reconstruction of Lar...

Recently reading that Mahoney post makes me realize that this subject was most likely taught formally during her time at MIT. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to take a hard look. I assume one would start with the auxiliary ground line and mark off the points of the plan to a selected scale. So, w...

Parentheses: On Flickr there is a user name Seier + Seier, an architect in Denmark. He has modeled by computer an unbulit work by Utzon, a stadium in Saudi Arabia. It's incredible work both Utzon's and Mr Seier's. Highly recommended to check out his Utzon set, as well his entire photostream for that...

Reflecting on this essay after a one time reading, two items stay in mind. First, how different the times were during the early Prairie years and how in- accessible to understanding they may be to us now. Not sure exactly what I want to say here, but it has something to do with the real connection o...

Arc/T-square method: Seem to remember seeing a diagram about this before and kind of dismissing it as too cumbersome and not understanding how the arc would be derived. But armed now with the knowledge of physical across the room VP pins one can image constructing a formal perspective setup and usin...
