It is interesting to see the history "peeled back". In photo 2, it looks as though it was first framed for a different size skylight. Also, it would be tempting to insert joist hangers (common practice now) instead of relying on the toenailed condition; although, I must admit, there is no ...

As I recall, the Eichlers have a 2x6 DF t&g roof deck with the aforementioned 1" of rigid insulation, edged with a simple galvanized metal gravel stop. Very basic construction.

A narrow fascia can still be achieved by tapering the insulation at the edge of the roof (although perhaps not to 1"...lol). I saw Frey I during my student days. The Dean of my school was a USC graduate and personal friends with many of the mid-century Southern California modernists. It gave us...

No connection, except both were among my lifelong icons.

I do not remember a time (51 years as a practicing architect) when the building codes did not require a spread footing. Generally, 18 to 24 inches below grade in mild climates and below the frost line in areas subject to freezing. Of course, FLW's work was prior to my tenure. Even so, he probably us...

How would an "original" Weltzheimer perferorated board come to be in the Domino's Collection? Under what circumstances was it removed from the house?
Sounds like an interesting story in itself.

Perhaps Sullivan was aware of Wright's out-of-office activities but chose to "look the other way" for a time. When it became apparent that Wright would soon become independent anyway, Sullivan simply helped him along. Loyalty was, I think, measured on a different scale 120 years ago. I rec...

An opportunity to see the Blackhawk car collection should not be passed up!
Some really fine cars, beautifully restored and fastidiously prepared for exhibit. One of the finest collections that I have ever seen.

About fifteen years ago I attempted to put the Pauson plan on Autocad using Storrer's 3'0" module. It quickly became apparent that it needed to be 3'6".
Jeff, I think you will find that many of the problem areas you encountered (perhaps not all) will be resolved with the increased module.

If he is a developer in that part of phoenix, how could Sells not know of the significance of the Wright house.
His coment of "not knowing what we were walking into" is disengenuous to say the least.
I agree with Wrightgeek, "it all still smells a bit fishy".

I agree, pterm, obsession is simply attention to detail in this case. Additionally, I always align the slots in the screws, horizontally or vertically, depending on the visual situation. I align Phillips screws as well. Thankfully, slotted screws are plentiful (anachronistically, one could argue) he...
