I found one postage stamp-sized photo in this interesting collection of photos .... only you have to scroll down to 1945 and look sharp, or you'll go right by it.

Here's a photo of the entry gate and driveway. It will give you an idea of the problem.

Laurie Virr unearthed this valuable (and well annotated) collection of photos of Wright. Some of our favorite photos are here -- properly identified, for once -- as well as many surprises. http://www.steinerag.com/flw/Artifact%20Pages/PhotoWrightPortraits.htm SDR Laurie Virr's photo contributions d...

(SDR: Off topic. Is the Friedman house really a masterwork?) I've never been inside, but a friend and I once stopped at the Friedman House late at night ... to find the house completely dark, except for a dim light in the caretaker's apartment. Wishing to see the house by the light of day we slung ...

Rood. The following is a link to a thread on the 1920's camp from a couple of years ago: http://www.savewright.org/wright_chat/viewtopic.php?t=2612&highlight=ocatillo If you would, please share with us the search for the San Marcos site. Ah, thanks for the link, DRN. It seems I've repeated a fe...

The Ocatilla Camp site does indeed still exist, albeit in a rather bastardized fashion west of I-10 in Chandler. It's completely surrounded by development on Mountain Vista Drive not quite a quarter-mile west of south 32nd Street, but you can see it through a fence that fronts onto Mountain Vista. ...

I believe the water jets are adjustable ... and in this photo they are not fully "on", perhaps to help prevent wind spray. But, see:

How times change. The "Taliesin West Chair with Cutouts" was actually at Hillside in Wisconsin in the late 60's and 70's. I know, because it was in my room. The exposed wood was painted Taliesin Red, and the then blue upholstery was in such bad shape that one day I found a swatch of simila...

That's my point ... that Mr. Wright improved the relationship between the various parts at Taliesin ... whereas the Robie House configurations seems, at least to me, to be awkward and cramped.

I don't know, but I strongly suspect the entrance alcove ceiling was flat ... and barely over six feet above the floor, exactly like that of the outer, open loggia.

SDR wrote: "Good points, Rood. A major difference between the two living rooms is ceiling height." Yes, especially now that the Taliesin living room has a high ceiling, but in 1911 (and, again, after 1914) it was a single-story space, just like Robie. The historical triptych from the Wisco...
