Fantastic news Stan! How wonderful that they are doing this, and that they're uploading images that are both clear and ridiculously huge. This is exciting.

Fallingwater sent me a very prompt reply. They said they had no record of The Rock being on display there. Furthermore, Franklin Toker's Fallingwater Rising says that the painting was displayed at either their Pittsburgh or Palm Springs residence. I have now reached out to the Art Institute of Chica...

The Art Institute's page on the work says it was commissioned by the Kaufmanns and was on display at Fallingwater. The article you cited tells a slightly different story, but we know it belonged to the Kauffmans and was donated by EKj. I emailed Fallingwater and asked if it used to be there. Hopeful...

SDR,

Thank you for the link to the art exhibit. I'm excited there's a catalogue for it as I'm fascinated by Blume's Surrealism.

Looking at the Art Institute's website, the painting is apparently 5' x 6'. Where would that fit in Fallingwater? That's practically floor to ceiling in most rooms.

The Kaufmann's Art Collection

I follow the Art Institute of Chicago on Instagram, and they recently posted The Rock by Peter Blume https://i.imgur.com/SFWC0PT.jpg https://www.artic.edu/artworks/56682/the-rock In the 9th grade, when I was 15, I took a class trip to Chicago and we visited the Art Institute. I remember wandering ar...

It wasn't a match for the Claremont for sure. But at least it seemed to float on its own alone. One got the impression it was a separate pavilion with a small attachment to the main building. It also felt a bit more like a garden structure. Not so here.

This proposal is analogous to attaching a Fabergé Egg to a GE microwave oven...or something.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks horrible? I mean, really horrible? It isn't the chapel and it isn't the hotel, but the two together don't match at all.

Meisolus mentioned a book he referred to as the little Wasmuth. Does anyone know what was the exact name of the book, the name of the publisher, and publication date? When Wright published the Wasmuth portfolio, a smaller softcover book of photos accompanied it. There was an edition for the Europea...

I see something linear inside the terminals as well. I'm hoping to get some more information. A friend of mine did a lot of digging into the Universal Portland Cement Company and found a lot of great information. We're hoping it could lead to some more. It looks like they did all the concrete for Mi...

SDR, I added the photo to my post above. It's on the first page as well, along with the little bit of drawings we have for it. Thank you for the kind words! I had wondered if they might be electric light fixtures as well. The sketches show a globe atop the totem poles, so it's certainly a possibility.

Alright ladies and gents, here it is. This wasn't nearly the nightmare that Spaulding was, but it wasn't a cakewalk either, and there are still some issues with it. Before I get to the items I'm still struggling with, I have a few notes as to how I proceeded. Originally I went with the overall dimen...

I agree with you that gold isn't a neutral color SDR. I should have said it was "considered" one in my post above. I think it had more to do with the reflectivity than the actual "color" though. There is a reason that, whenever possible, I buy the same belt with both a silver and...

Two comments, first regarding this: Look at the habit of many of the Impressionists who framed their modern images in age-old, florid, gilded frames... I can't speak for all of the Impressionists, but most of those gilded frames were put there by dealers or owners. At Monet's studio at Giverny, the ...

SDR - The pretty little pavilion is the Yarn Market in Dunster. It dates from the early 17th century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarn_Market,_Dunster I'm still looking for the house you posted earlier with Poirot and Hastings out front. I'm so pleased so many of you share my love for the old seri...
