I think people nationwide underestimate the effect of the economy in Michigan. I wish someone had the resources.

Manitou Island

The most intriguing lead for the Monte Carlo cottage: "Then, about 10 years ago, Thomas A. Heinz, Frank Lloyd Wright scholar and author, came across an advertisement in an early edition of the magazine Inland Architect. The ad was occasionally cited in architectural literature, but never, evide...

bridge

I'm curious what was actually built - the Dells is such a busy area, it's hard to figure out exactly where the bridge would be since there seems to be a few. Free services are sometimes shunned in local government because it's hard to calculate a kickback as a percentage of the contract price. Rumor...

One area being replanted is adjacent to the Seminars Buildings, but it is very small. I am not sure whether other groves are being added elsewhere. I, too, was struck by the selection of FSC. Architecturally, it is superior. But its natural beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The lake is barely vi...

You are most likely correct. I am viewing this from a midwestern perspective. My apologies. I rather like sun coming in my windows. I guess that is why I am still living in the horrible State of Illinois and not Florida. I think Wright probably made that mistake when he designed the campus, althoug...

that's possible, but in central Florida the sun is not your friend. Even the buildings at the college have made some adjustments (such as curtains in the current visitor center).

It sure crowds the lot, but so did Mr. Robie's house.

I look forward to it! call me Jim.

Your website is excellent and it's great you have such access to the job site. It will be much better for readers to follow the progress on your web page - I won't feel pressured to keep up so much!

I'll post some exterior photos here in the next couple days. As you drive up the street, it's easy to spot! And it's a lot closer to Wright than a lot of so-called "authentic" Wright designs that real estate agents advertise.

since you are at GV, have you visited the house? As I recall, they sell a limited number of souvenirs and publications there. Also, the public library in G.R. might have any out-of-print books in their collection.

slab poured

The slab has been poured and is being cured with the assistance of a lawn sprinkler. I also got a less-obstructed view of the brick samples. I'll post new photos in the next couple days.

toilet

(1) It would remind me of the toilet we had on Skylab if I had ever actually been on Skylab.

(2) Even if I had a fancy toilet, I would not install it right in front of a window.

(3) Where do you keep the paper, or is paper obsolete when you have a bidet?

(4) Does it work during a power outage?

if anyone tries to track down this property, look for 127 East Park Street. Mapquest and Google will otherwise send you to West Park Street, which is block away in the wrong direction.

I can't answer any technical questions because I don't have that proficiency (especially here in Florida, where they don't have basements; I'm much more used to Michigan construction methods). I am sure that others will have that knowledge, and this is probably a good thread to pose those ongoing qu...
