Peter, Finding the right contractors. I don't anticipate problems on permits, as I'm well away from "communities" that have so many restrictions. I can pretty much do whatever I wish, other than the usual safety inspections. Few homeowners want an 832 square foot hut next to their 3,400 sq...

"Bill- please keep us posted as to the progress on your place. The best things in life are worth the wait!"

I shall do my best, Peter. It's proving to be a real task.

SDR,

Lovely drawings, but the illustrations have little to do with the chairs shown in Laurie Virr's home. Other than being designed Walter Burley Griffin, we find these in Australia, not America.

As many of you know, Laurie Virr has designed as small house for me. It started out as "a miserable Japanese Hut for my favorite Texan." In fact, this lovely design has developed into far more than I can explain. A true friendship and respect for an Architect who truly "gets it."...

I've long been a fan of Charles and Ray Eames. I have a rather nice collection of their furniture, fabrics and books. I still teach a unit for my middle school art students on all things Architecture. It includes several short films that Charles produced. The toys, Powers of Ten, and the Do-Nothing ...

Yes, well said, DRN. The underlying problem here is to actually be able to build under 1,000 sq. ft. in a "community" that will allow access to city water, power and sewage. Too many restrictions on size. Why you can't build a "tiny" house here! What would the neighbors say? It's...

Traley, Your house indeed was designed by Larry Morton Gernsbacher, as well as the large one on Autumn Dr. I have very little info on him, but will dig up what I can to share. I tried to buy 4050 back in 2008, but couldn't come together on terms. You're not insane, it's a very nice property! Small m...

Here's the article from the '59 October issue of House Beautiful. Sorry for the quality as the binding is rather delicate after all these years. And it's my first time to attempt posting images... Well that didn't work.

There's actually very little to the story. Strange that they show it on the cover, yet give very little more. I'll get some images together as it does include a rather nice floor plan and materials information.

201! :)

I have a copy of this edition of House Beautiful. The DeLong house was built for $19,500 including landscaping and design fee but not the land.
