Finally! A thread involving two of my passions! The Civil War and architecture! This was not an attractive building, and they placed it in a very visible spot close to the very apex of the battle, and it was very out of place. The NPS wants to return the site as much as possible to its 1863 appearan...

How long did Mr. Brown live in the house? He looks somewhat elderly here, and this is a video from nearly 30 years ago. He certainly had the right attitude about living in such an unusual, famous house.

I agree, Paul, and I will be doing such. A modest contribution, but a contribution nonetheless. Their hard work on the David Wright house is much appreciated by me personally and should be appreciated by any person with an eye towards preserving significant cultural, artistic and architectural treas...

I find it interesting that Eric Lloyd Wright was Iovanna's guardian, and not her daughter. Does anyone know the status of her daughter? She would be in her mid-50's by now. After reading the Fellowship and the seeing various anecdotes, Iovanna strikes me as someone who was horribly sheltered as a ch...

Smith House Tour

FYI - There is a Melvyn and Sara Smith house tour scheduled for Sept. 30 through Cranbrook.

The house recently underwent a restoration of the roof and it looks wonderful, no deflections or droppings anywhere!

Question re Weltzheimer

On July 21, my friend and I are taking a trip to tour Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. He has an architecture degree and has never been to either. We are driving back to Michigan that Sunday and can stop at weltzheimer. We will not be there on a tour weekend, but I would like to show it to my friend b...

Katherine Winkler's Art

I just happened upon a painting by Katherine Winkler at the Michigan State University surplus store. In what could only be described as an impulse buy, I bought it for $75. The Goetsch Winkler is one of my favorite houses, and I totally geeked out at the chance to own a painting by one of its patron...

Indeed, Kevin, it is I. Has it really been a year since that rather spectacular tour in the Buckeye State? What a wonderful day that was. Michelle also sends her greetings to you and Christine. She was very excited to see Urban Meyer take over the reins at OSU, and I want the Buckeyes to win everyti...

Planning a trip to Buffalo...

I've toured FLW sites all over the country, but this will be my first time in the Buffalo area. We will be visiting relatives in Rochester and I will have one day to myself to explore. I will surely visit the Darwin Martin House (the in depth tour) and would like to visit the Larkin pier, Blue Sky M...

William Allin Storrer's credibility with me is eroding by the second. He and his researchers are doing themselves no favors by acting with such recklessness in their conclusions of fact. Speaking as an attorney myself, Mr. Storrer would be well advised to be silent on the subject of the Davenport Ho...

Rich, with all due respect, If you are resorting to a "oh yeah, prove Robinson was the architect" argument, then I think you lack the evidence to make a credible claim.

I find this discussion to be very interesting, but it really boils down to a fairly simple premise: A claim has been made, and therefore the burden of proof is upon the claimant, not anyone else. What passes for proof is up for legitimate debate. However, Mark brings up a very valid point in that th...
