This is the only Usonian that I have seen that does not have Cherokee Red concrete floors. They are kind of a dark mustard color. Actually they are about the same color as the magnesite floor in his Oak Park Studio. Are there others with non-standard floor colors. i don't know about other usonians ...

j. willis hughes house (fountainhead)

the notion of "what's around the corner" is what great architecture is about: the choreography, dynamic movement. many works of architecture make good photo stills, but when kaufmann thinks in these terms, it is clear, as you said, that he has experienced the best architecture first hand.

beautiful photos sdr! i have always liked the combination of wright design with aalto furniture as shown in the california obler house. in fact, what is it about aalto furniture that makes it so universal? it seems as if an aalto piece works anywhere. i also find alexendar girard's playfulness refre...

the drawings for the lamberson house show a beautiful and elaborate geometric elevated grate design, which i don't think was ever built. the old photo of the living room with it's original fireplace, probably from the mid fifties, shows a cruder table grate to elevate the logs. it would be nice to f...
