nice photos! i was just there a month ago, and they were still doing repairs on the skin. i especially like the black and white photos. they look like vintage pics from opening day. the value of the color looks just right. then when i went back to the color photos, i found myself wanting to see that...

maybe a more manageable and marketable book would be documenting only the unbuilt designs. the renderings are so illuminating, and to see what could have been (with the accompanying story as to why it wasn't built) could make for an interesting read.

good luck. i"ll buy it!

i have seen a lot of r.m. schindler's furniture close up. he simply filled the voids with putty. of course there weren't as many in those days as there are now. schindler was not shy about revealing the edge in his plywood constructions, but he did conceal some of the "imperfect" qualities...

i have only seen photos of the lloyd wright wayfarers chapel, which as we all know, can be very deceiving when it comes to architecture.

thanks ps traveler. i will contact him and see what he says. The attraction of solid wood in the case of miters is that minor irregularities of alignment can be sanded to perfection. Plywood face veneers, at somewhere around 1/40th of an inch these days, leave no room at all for such "adjustmen...

I do, by the way, like a lot of the work of Lloyd Wright. I've seen Taggart and Sowden from the exteriors only, but not Novarro. By any chance, do you have an address for the Novarro residence? If so, that would be great. the 1928 samuel-novarro house is located at 5609 valley oak drive, l.a. ca.
