i assume that today the alternatives to the fireplace as a center of the home could be the garden and the contact with the piece of nature that you can have being close to this area. maybe a more japanese touch in the design of the houses could be the key... this can be at least in the mild climate ...

in the very south mediterranean, where i live, it´s no really useful to have a fire in winter... so in all the houses and apartments since a long time ago the fireplace is not seen as an useful option. to adapt to our latitudes the usonian vocabulary could be a problem if we don´t recognize the wr...
