Re: Broadacre City at MOMA
Yes---add it to the (short) list of structures that it appears history will always cite as precursors to the Guggenheim. The Gordon Strong Automobile Objective (Maryland, 1924)---and the Anderton Court shops on Rodeo Drive, when they get desperate---are the chief examples of the spiral-to-the-stars ...

Re: Frank Wright and George Parker (Parker Pen)
I wonder if any writer on design has ever tackled the subject of quantity of material employed in construction of a given building, as it relates to the various movements and styles in the world of architecture. That is, to what extent and degree is the amount of material (and a corresponding expend...

Re: Frank Wright and George Parker (Parker Pen)
Heh-heh. Leave it to Mr Wright to befriend an iconoclast and wit like Parker ! Wright's gentle alarm at the passing of the Old Guard is no doubt a universal and long-standing complaint---but coming from him it may have special meaning. In any event we can be glad to know of the mutual understanding ...

Re: Video: Glessner House - Chicago, IL
I was also interested to know that the architect substituted granite for the client's suggested limestone, on grounds of permanence. The Old Mint in San Francisco was built of stone whose surface spalled off over time, leaving an unfortunate irregularity of color and texture--since repaired . . . ht...

Re: Video: Glessner House - Chicago, IL
So much to see and read about my favorite granite barn ! The wealth of color photos paired with vintage views is much appreciated; I learned here for the first time that the exterior stonework is pointed with red mortar. And who knew as much as here revealed about the family's life and habits, inclu...

Thanks, David. Not everyone would go that far toward a strong monochromatic effect, but I might. I recall a Schindler that at one point was painted all-over ocher; I never found out if that was the architect's choice.

Re: For sale: Wright-ian house - (Boise, ID)
Was he based in Idaho, do we know ? I'm very impressed with this design. The suburban neighborhood seen in the street views could be mistaken for one found in practically any state in the Union. Would America represent the largest geographic area with a common housing/planning type, in all the world...

Re: For sale: Wright-ian house - (Boise, ID)
Thanks, David. One wonders why it was thought necessary to increase the roof pitch beyond what is experienced inside the house. One possible answer: scissor trusses ?

Re: Video: Eric Lloyd Wright's Ross House - (Silver Lake, CA)
I wonder if it was painted white when Eric was done. At the risk of being repetitious, a softer and warmer color, inside and out (though not necessarily identical in value) would be more organic, welcoming and comfortable ?

What a delight is the Hill residence. Discipline, restraint, continuity and repose. And visual richness obtained with "natural" materials. Any designer could learn from this example . . .
What do you suppose the exterior is like ?

Re: CGI: 'Eaglefeather Frank Lloyd Wright'
I had hoped to find the previously-posted link I recall, to a different (?) digital model of the design. In 2017 Paul Ringstrom did post such a link, but it is no longer viable.

Re: For sale: Wright-ian house - (Boise, ID)
I haven't decided what I think of the odd front door. Should it have been placed further along in that L-shaped glazed wall, at right angles to its present location ? But it's always a pleasant shock to find something as simple as the board-and-sunk-batten walls here and to realize that I've never s...

Wow---what a tour-de-force of modern-day animation technique, turning vintage still imagery into moving pictures. Virtually every moment is filled with shifting perspective and traveling" camera" shots. A labor of love ? Don't tell me AI is capable of this, too . . .

Maybe---maybe---this URL will work for you as it works for me. Or maybe you have to register at JSTOR. This Internet world, and its impossible password regimen, just keeps getting more unnecessarily complex. https://www.jstor.org/action/doBasicSearch?Query=%28Frank+Lloyd+Wright%29+AND+%28Hoyt%29&...
