RE: Textile Block DIY

A workshop would be great fun and informative. I often wonder whether, in the intervening 50 years, advances in construction and production techniques would allow us to iron out the problems previously encountered with textile block construction and make it a viable approach now.

Textile Block DIY

Has anyone run across a website or video which well demonstrates, step-by-step, block-by-block, how FLLW's textile block construction was performed on site?

Eppstein

The county records list the owner as a Matthew Kane of Granger, Michigan. The county-appraised value of the home is approximately $275,000, down from $280,000 in 2009.

Jacobs I

As delighted as I am that FLLW's works continue to be studied by architecture and engineering students in Europe, can someone re-assure us that he is being studied in his home country as well?

I am reminded of the question asked by a TV character on a long-forgotten show, when informed by someone that he did not own a TV: "Then what is your furniture pointed at?"

(Which does raise the prospect of a new topic: Did FLLW ever "point" his furniture? But I digress....)

Doug LaBrecque, the owner of the Curtis Meyer house in Galesburg, is a member of Wright Chat. His profile in the "Memberlist" above allows for you to send him a private message. If you can reach him, and he's in Michigan when you are, he could be an entry into The Acres.

Re: Question re: Upcoming Trip to D.C.

Unfortunately, while the west bank of the Potomac runs right along the bluff on the Virginia side, there is a good deal of woolly terrain, not to mention the C&O Canal, separating the east bank and Clara Barton Parkway -- especially if recent rain has swelled the river and flooded the adjoining ...

D.C.

Marden is wholly off limits unless you're a fellow multi-millionaire like the AOL mogul who owns it. But the foliage is hopefully off the trees enough that you can see the exterior of the house, high on the Virginia bank of the Potomac River, from either Chain Bridge or one of the C&O Canal &quo...

That Hat

I have been interested of late in the architecture which FLLW preferred to wear on his head in the later years: that pork pie hat. In looking for the availability of a similar hat today, it appears to me that FLLW's hat may not precisely fit the "pork pie" category. While the crown indeed ...

George Blossom Cottage?

The June issue of "Traverse," a magazine about Northern Michigan (traversemagazine.com), includes an item about a cottage on North Manitou Island, Michigan, allegedly designed by FLLW for George Blossom, for whom Wright designed a Queen Anne-style home in Chicago. The "Monte Carlo Hou...
