Re: Obituary: Franklin Toker
The average height for a US male is currently 5' 9". FLW claimed to be 5' 8-1/2" on his 1905 passport. Not short at all.

Re: Huntington Hartford House
Well, SDR, that almost sums it up. The one left out, you could stroll to Maiden Lane and see for yourself. In addition to the inverted domes at Morris, the alcove to the left of the approach to the ramp has a domed ceiling finished in gold leaf. If seated therein, there is no problem, but standing, ...

Re: WBG's Blythe House is NOW on the market
Yes, Paul, but what about the skylights installed at Blythe itself? According to the plan, there were 9 lights for the house, originally lighting the first floor veranda. They were not part of the Inn lot. When I saw the house in '84, they were in the roof that was added over the second story balcon...

Re: FLW's Forgotten House
Charming house, not unlike the small cottage on Burnham. The porch, as shown in the elevation, was intended to be open, while as-built it may have been enclosed, or enclosed at a later date. I wonder if that element, which was, or was to be, quite handsome, will be restored. In the Wisconsin climate...

Re: Timber building for University of Arkansas
At a glance, it looked like an architect was finally trying to integrate solar collectors into a design, but that seems not to have been the case.

Re: WBG's Blythe House is NOW on the market
"The Prairie School" by H. Allen Brooks, pages 254-5, with an early photo of the principal exterior and the floor plan, indicates the enclosed veranda on the main level, with 9 square skylights, was built as designed in 1913. "Mason City, Iowa, An Architectural Heritage," pg 55, ...

Re: New photos from Wingspread
When I visited Wingspread in 1987, and climbed the spiral stair, there was a cactus in a pot on the balcony at the base, and a slender cactus, tied occasionally to keep it from falling over, grew the entire distance of the stair.

Re: WBG's Blythe House is NOW on the market
Which would you prefer: 1) The Blythe House in Mason City, with 5 bedrooms, 3 baths, 4394 sf, 1.95 acres with park view, for $475K and a few months of blustery weather... or 2) a 1 bedroom 1 bath, 500 sf condo, with a view of a parking lot and a gas station in West Hollywood - with permanent drought...

Re: Arthur Dyson Springville, California
Dyson, like Lautner, learned from FLW without copying him. Wallace Cunningham (post-FLW) is another who has gone his own way.

Interesting. Looks like Watson picked more from Lautner and Dyson than Wright.

George Maher Blinn House goes public.
The only Maher building on the West Coast, which has long been used by the Women's City Club of Pasadena as their private headquarters, has been gifted by the club (which dissolved last year) to Pasadena Heritage. This may make the house more open to the public. Why such an event matters? The house ...

Re: Light variation
Geiger was obsessed with Hillside. He made many drawings of it, and wrote about it. I never saw much of this, but assume it has gone to U of M with the rest of his archive.

Turner, as builder of Christie, would not have had anything to say about siting. That was Christie's choice, apparently.

Only volumes 11 (Preliminary Studies 1933 - 1959) and 12 (In His Renderings 1887 - 1959) would include images specifically of the perfs, and there are none.
