... and one more of my favorites, a true modern masterpiece: Maison Dalsace in Paris by Chareau.

You might contact John Geiger at <[email protected]> He was at Taliesin from 1948 to 1954. He has done a lot of research on the Fellowship, and might have information at least on Bachman.

About the only building that I would place above Fallingwater is Taliesin. If architecture is frozen music, Fallingwater is Beethoven's Fifth, while Taliesin is the Ninth, or maybe Bach's B Minor Mass! But I wouldn't melt either one to find out. Of non-FLW buildings in the vicinity of FW, though not...

The problems on this site are addressed by a volunteer on an "as needed" basis. The people at the Conservancy office rarely enter the chat room, so they are not aware of problems people might be having with it. The only way to address any problems you are having is to e-mail the office dir...

The critique of FLW buildings constructed after, and in many cases before, 1959 should be on a case by case basis. The Yahara Boat Club is so simple that it's hard to be dogmatic about its being built a century after its design, provided it is done without change and is used as originally prescribed...

JimM, I think you're wrong in one respect: The arguement is finished; you have just wrapped it up!

Svetlanna described Olga's face as shriveled and yellow, like old parchment, which was accurate when I saw her ten years earlier. That may be what Cher would look like if she hadn't had such a great team of surgeons, but now she is too old to play Olga in her youth and too taut to play her in old age.

I have seen the interior of Thomas. The glass is spectacular, but the house is not all that great. If you got into the entry and not beyond, that would be enough. I suspect the same is mostly true of Winslow; the entrance and dining room are the only significant interiors. The most interesting detai...

First, I cannot see anything about the "MetroShip" that has anything to do with Frank Lloyd Wright. They may as well have claimed Leonardo Da Vinci, Julia Child or Paris Hilton the source of inspiration.

Second, it's a pathetic designer who took four years to come up with that design.

Neither Yado nor MacDowell are "screwy." They have hosted some of the most creative artists in America for over a century. The problem with having tours open to any passerby with 50 bucks in his pocket is that these are very delicate structures (especially Wisconsin) that are easily damage...

The Legacy ripoff is not only an affront to Frank Lloyd Wright's reputation, but the quality of the finished product betrays the lack of comprehension of FLW's philosophy by those at Taliesin who perpetrate these misdeeds. One such that I find especially galling is the country club of stone based on...

I have seen volume 3 for $1500. Volume 1 is much more scarce and desireable, so I would expect it to be priced higher, although I have not seen one on the market for 20 years.

EJ, Lu would indeed be surprised to find out Jack was gay, but no one else who knew him (that I have ever met) would be. There isn't anything wrong with being gay, but there is something wrong with decieving people about it to the point of marrying to avoid exposure. Nor does this take away from the...

You are absolutely correct. The worst things to happen to paint are latex and the outlawing of lead-based oils. It may be a healthier environment (although I'm not so sure children eating latex paint chips is a huge step up from lead) but it is now extremely hard to recreate finishes that were commo...
