To the best of my limited knowledge, Jacobs I is not available to be rented on a per night or per week basis, but must be rented by the month, during the summer months only I believe. Last time I checked, which was fairly recently, the ranch in Montana was up for sale. I'm not sure whether or not it...

The governor of New York very recently reallocated approx. $100 million that was somehow connected to the Adelphia Cable/Internet Cos. fiasco of several years ago, and the city of Buffalo was a major benefactor of these funds. In particular, the Westside Rowing Club boathouse project, the FLW fillin...

Arch Obeler

I did attend the tour which went to Arch Obeler, and based on what I saw, the buildings for the most part are in very poor condition. There is a caretaker who lives on the property, more for security purposes than anything else from what I saw. I believe the current owner lives in England? Eric Lloy...

FYI-

Buff is a shade of yellowish/gold, a warm color with hints of brown.

Hope that helps.

Wyant House

While the potential loss of ANY FLW creation is difficult to accept and it is very painful to see photos of the skeletal remains of the burned out Wyant House, let me offer some personal observations. While on a FLW-inspired road trip I took in Nov. 2004 through Michigan and Indiana, I visited both ...

Auction Update

Here is the latest update in the very confusing saga of the auctioning off of the Schaberg residence. Apparantly the auction scheduled for 11/30 did not take place, and has been rescheduled for Dec. 15. See the link below for all of the latest details. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=...

I just came across this on the Scripps-Howard News Service, thought I would share it. Sounds pretty legit? As suggested by another poster, I went to the Inland Real Estate web site to see if the Schaberg property had indeed sold at auction, and here is a link to what I found (you'll need to scroll down the page a bit): http://www.inlandgroup.com/ireac/calendar_frame.htm Based on this, it appears as thoug...

Schaberg House Auction

The Donald Schaberg House in Okemos, Mich. is set to be auctioned off today (11/30) by Inland Real Estate, but I don't know what time of day the auction was set to begin. If anyone out there hears anything about the auction and/or the outcome of the auction, please post an update here for the rest o...

Paul- Far be it from me to claim to be knowledgable about encaustic wall finishes. What little I do know is that encaustics employ the use of beeswax in the process of creating the finish, which results in a very soft glow to the finished surface when complete. Alledgedly the Burton Westcott house s...

Paul- Just as an FYI, you can also see an original wall finish (encaustic) in another FLW Prairie house if you visit the newly restored and very beautiful Burton J. Westcott house in Springfield, Ohio. In the playroom, several of the walls have been very faithfully and accurately restored, but one o...

I could not agree more with Paul Harding's suggestion about who should be able to post on this forum. Whether you agree with his thoughts on the subject of the selling of FLW blueprints or not, the personal attack on him by the "guest" poster was totally out of line and uncalled for. My gu...

Prairie Houses

That prompts another related question on the the topic of Prairie style houses done by FLW. While I frequently see references to Wingspread as the "last Prairie house", done in the mid 1930's, I have also seen numerous claims that the Allen-Lambe House, built in Witchita in the mid-to-late...

FLLW Thesis Topic

I just returned from the FLWBC Conference in LA, and there was an extensive presentation made on the final day (Sat.) by a panel of preservation and restoration experts discussing the challenges presented by the block houses of southern California. In particular response to your question, a structur...
