2006 Conference Information

EJ- You might try contacting the Conservancy office by phone or email to see if they can send or email you a copy of the brochure from last year's conference in Los Angeles. If they can, the brochure will provide you with a very detailed description of the optional pre-conference opportunities, as w...

1939 Manson Residence/Wausau, WI For Sale By Owner

While doing an internet search on former Taliesin apprentice Benjamin Dombar, I was suprised to stumble across a webpage for a Wisconsin FSBO real estate firm that has a listing for the Grant Manson residence in Wausau. For those who don't know, Ben Dombar was the apprentice assigned by Taliesin/FLW...

Dear "Guest"- Under the cloak of anonimity, you take the liberty to take potshots at others on this forum without even having the credibility to identify yourself to those you are attacking. In my eyes, and I speak only for myself, that in itself diminishes the validity of your outbursts, ...

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I would like to thank those involved at the Conservancy for all of their efforts to update this forum to deal with and hopefully eliminate the frustrating spam problem we have all endured in the recent weeks. As users of this forum, which we all obviously enjoy tremendously, let's not forget that th...

Renting Wright Houses

PrairieMod- No problem, I just thought you might find that thread informative. As to the Muirhead, I believe they only began accepting guests within the last 60-90 days or so. I will be spending 2 nights there in mid-August, and I'll be happy to post my thoughts after staying there. Based on the web...

Renting Wright Houses

PrairieMod- I don't know if you saw the recent thread on this board entitled "Wright Rentals", which addresses the topic of your post and will probably provide you with answers and observations for most of your questions on this subject. There were 13 replies to the original post, many by ...

F L W house beeing moved to Pennsylvania

To make a long story short, the Duncan Residence was an Erdman prefab plan by FLW designed in 1957 I believe, and was built in Lisle, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The area where this relatively modest home was built became very desirable to developers of very large and expensive new homes by the e...

Weltzheimer House

I have had the pleasure of personally visiting the Weltzheimer House, and I agree with the previous poster that it is a fantastic example of FLW's later Usonian work. I would also encourage anyone reading this post to take the time and effort when in the Midwest to see this beautifully restored and ...

Weltzheimer House, Oberlin, OH

So, Paul, based on your previous reply to this post, would it be safe to assume that you will not be lobbying Bill Storrer or the FLWBC to rename your soon-to-be new home the "Davenport-Harding Residence"?

BTW, I agree with your views on this subject completely.

I'm sure it was just a slip on your part JimM, but as you probably already know, most of Albert Frey's work is located in Palm Springs, not Las Vegas. I certainly agree with you that Albert Frey is an often overlooked and underappreciated practitioner of organic architecture who deserves to be menti...

Having recently been fortunate enough to tour the spectacular Kaufmann residence in Palm Springs, as well as several others by Neutra in the Silver Lake area of L.A., I'm not so sure that I agree with the assessment that he (Neutra) was little more that a "great designer". The buildings I ...

Having stayed at the Schwartz house, I must agree with John, that the living room and reading nook/library are both very comfortable and cozy spaces. It may not have come across that way on the Travel Channel segment, but if you ever have the chance to see the house in person, I'm sure you'll agree.

Well, the most obvious advantanges involve time and accessibility. Instead of being paraded through the house in 30-45 minutes on a tour with a group of strangers, and being limited to seeing only select areas of the house, when staying in a FLW overnight property you have the luxury of spending as ...
