Re: FL Appellate Court holds forth at Florida Southern College
The Marin County Center has included courtrooms since it opened in the 60s. One of them was the scene of a famous shootout in 1970; Angela Davis, sometime philosophy prof, went on trial for having abetted it and was eventually acquitted. Apart from Taliesin in 1914, that's the only time I know in wh...

Re: Ennis House sold to Ron Burkle
Wright designed that base / retaining wall to be much smaller than it turned out. The survey said that the slope wasn't nearly as steep as it was. By the time the builders discovered the mistake, he had already returned to Wisconsin and left Lloyd in charge, and they had to adapt it to the real hill...

Re: Bach, continued
You could rationalize a Bach connection here, too, if you wanted to. O'Connor comes out of the milieu of country fiddling, and Bach's violin writing is sometimes reminiscent of the style, as in the last movement of Brandenburg #3 (5:44).

Re: Wright Eichler Connection
Yes, they are notably small. This is a standard complaint about Eichler's houses, too. Wright said if you are trying to save money, concentrate your resources on the common areas. What struck me was the mattresses that fit the hexagonal grid (visible in the floor plan above). I remarked that they mu...

Re: Book Review: "Frank Lloyd Wright: The Architecture of Defiance"
Siry's book on Unity Temple shows that the square, balconied layout was a pattern for Unitarian churches in the UK as far back as the 18th century. Wright wouldn't have seen them, but he could easily have heard about them from his family. He'd used the layout in the Abraham Lincoln Center.

An addition to the short list of sympathetic characters in modern houses is The Second Woman (1950) available on Amazon Prime. The house slightly resembles Fallingwater outside; inside it's an upsacle MCM tract house. The setting is Carmel, and the date makes it contemporary with Walker, but this ap...

It looks vaguely like the pinwheel plan of Schindler's own house, and the lettering is similar. Was that a standard lettering style in those days?
