Re: My book on Paul Hayden Kirk is finally done!

Kirk wasn't know for his institutional work and those photos of McMahon Dorm at the University of Washington are an example why. The codes of the time, and the preferences of Minoru Yamasaki who headed up the campus architecture planning committee, all but required the use of concrete. Like a lot of...

My book on Paul Hayden Kirk is finally done!

Paul Kirk is the unsung hero of mid-century architecture in the Pacific Northwest. For some reason, no one up here in Seattle writes about local architects, so I decided to do something about it. The result is the first book on Kirk, who set the bar for residential design in the post-war decades. It...

Re: Alsop house news

Thanks. I was wondering how it compared to other homes in the area. Nice video BTW and informative. I didn't know the two homes were commissioned and built at the same time. And that 5 foot module is interesting as I always feels Wright's homes can be a bit tight and would benefit from scaling up a ...

Re: Alsop house news

I understand they are taking offers. So what is a fair estimate on the value of the house?

Hanna House Table?

Does this look legit? And how did it end up in Sequim, WA?

Re: Alsop house news

I'm a sucker for a good hard-edge painting and noticed one over the fireplace of the Alsop House.

Anyone know who the artist is?

Re: Hugo Avila's Wright Renders

It's one of my favorite FLW designs. The very embodiment of prospect and refuge with part of the main volume glass and part solid rock/block/adobe/whatever. The material is less important in my opinion than the shape. It is a rather compact design and if I ever win the lottery I'd build it...but abo...

Brewer, which I'm not familiar with, looks a lot like Chahroudi.

Re: Rose and Gertrude Pauson house

Wasn't there a planned addition extending perpendicular to the main mass? The result would have been a first floor L-shaped plan.

Re: Hugo Avila's Wright Renders

What are the exterior walls made of? Looks like bands on concrete or stucco with narrow bands of wood. Lovely.

Re: Rose and Gertrude Pauson house

This house is such a constant source of fascination: What we need to do is find a temporary site in Scottsdale and create a temporary mock-up of the house. Then charge for admission. I am guessing that the scale would be surprising to some. It seems to have been a pretty tight house...er...desert co...

Re: Frank Lloyd Wright 12 Monograph set

It won't go that cheap. There was a set for sale here in seattle for 1600...which isn't a bad price.

Why haven't they come out with a digital version of the monographs? So much easier than bulky books.

Re: FLW Disney-fied

I'm guessing it was a mix of infringement concerns (the FLW Foundation protects it's IP), as well as the desire to just control their own IP (Disney also aggressively protects it's IP).

Re: Archives to Avery Library/ Columbia University

Decades ago, I worked at the Getty after the Wright archive had been photographed. It was the start of my Wright fascination. I could search the binders of 8x10" photos of drawings at my leisure...on a lunch break, or even coming in on the weekends to marvel at the vast quantity of amazing work...

Re: Archives to Avery Library/ Columbia University

So are these new scans of the drawings, or simply scans of the photos the Getty took of the drawings decades ago. I've always wondered why the Getty hasn't put their drawings on line, but I assume copyright is still an issue. Does the Avery/Moma now own copyright to the drawings? Or did the Foundati...
