Re: Post-Wright Apprentice list 1959-present

I did find the timeline a while ago and download the individual pages for each decade. I can't remember where I did found them. Here is the person that made it originally: https://valmcox.com/glcc/assets/42.011.pdf But the timeline goes from the 1930-2010s, listing apprentices and architecture stude...

Re: Frank Lloyd Wright's Ashes

find it very sad that the resting place of such a talented, creative genius is unknown to those who wish to pay him tribute and honor him. One thing Frank Lloyd Wright did not want to be was unknown. I doubt that would be any different for him in death. Based on this comment from the 1985 Chicago T...

It isn't that hard to flip the video horizontally. I can do that and re-upload it if people are interested.

Re: Prairie School home in Oak Park

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eben_Ezra_Roberts The present property is notable for its geometric terra-cotta adornment at the second-floor level, which extends to the garage structure suggesting (but not confirming) that both buildings were constructed at the same time. The motif reminds one of Su...

Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

Do you expect to find any 90º intersections in your chair ? There isn't a single one visible, for instance, in the section of the Howe chair on the previous page. Is the arm at 90º to the chair side ? I imagine it could be made so. At least that would be one tight finger joint ? THE only 90 degree ...

Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

No, the more fingers, the more glue area---that's right. But if you have a CNC machine, why not let it cut the miters for you. A simply glued miter in 3/4" plywood has more than enough glue area to make a strong joint, without fasteners or biscuits. The CNC router is dependent on the bit in it...

Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

Though many are using CNC technology to finger-joint plywood today, I think most of them wisely use broader and fewer projections, which admittedly provide less glue area on the cheeks of the pins. Perhaps the technique is intended to provide registration of the joined parts, rather than as a tradi...

Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

Here is a picture of my playing around with a scale version of the Howe Chair, but made for digital fabrication. Lasercut out of 1/8 ply in this case, but will scale it up for 3/4 plywood on a CNC router at full size. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50354115087_f41446395b_k.jpg IMG_4596 by Owen ...

Here are some more. I don't enjoy the cross-eyed method anymore, I made a Stereoscope with my laser cutter: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49341069118_3ecd21c6fc_c.jpg IMG_3422 2 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49341034843_2a37131ef1_b.jpg IMG_7862 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/493410...
