Peter,
The cabinet faces do not appear to be plain-sawn redwood plywood (like the rest of the house). Is it riff-cut redwood, or some other species?

Houses like this have no relevance to one who lives in the Midwest. Walls with R-1 insulation make no sense. Certainly no energy efficiency even where AC is concerned.

IMHO the Charles Manson House is #1 (with a bullet) as the least desirable Usonian. It is interesting that Wright's handling of the bedroom wing in the Mathews ...

I've visited Arcosanti and my impression was a community of Kool-Aid drinkers who were very delusional (I guess that is redundant). There was nothing appealing about it.

"I recall FLW suggesting that idea for his early usonians, but I don't know if it was ever done." -- Doug

This method of building the roof first was used in the construction of the Unitarian Meeting House in Madison, WI. There are many historical photos that show it during construction.

This is an exceptionally beautiful home that was subject to a gut/restore by John Eifler. I was lucky to see it both during and after the restoration. It is on a large piece of land and across the street from a WBG house and about a block and a half from FLW's Henderson House (also for sale).
