I'll second that! I'm clapping now. Thanks, SDR, for your contributions.

SDR--to echo Jeff, the copper mural is first floor. The area currently serves as a kind of lobby where tours gather. If you enter the "public" entrance (currently the only working entrance) and walk forward, the gallery lobby and copper mural/built-in couch are a left turn through a set of...

SDR--Thanks as always for the photographs. You are an essential resource for this board. I have a question about the mural from the first floor of the Price Tower. That's the mural in the reception space that sits in front of the entrance to the (current) gallery space, is that right? On our recent ...

Taliesin Timeline

Found this while scooting around online. A PDF of an exhibition that was installed at Taliesin in 2007, designed by Taliesin-trained artist Val M. Cox, from an idea by Susan Jacobs Lockhart and another gentleman. http://www.valmcox.com/vmc/media/general/42011-taliesin%20timeline/taliesin%20timeline-...

Regarding the terrace--this is the story I heard: Wright wanted a cantilever, soaring out beyond the hill; Prices didn't trust it, insisted on the supports; the old man relented, but insisted on the fountain (perhaps to draw attention from the poles?). I'd like to see it with the fountain in full fo...

is that green paint on the exterior trim in this photo? http://www.naturalhomemagazine.com/uploadedImages/articles/issues/2009-07-01/NH-JA09-15.jpg The exterior trim of the Little Living Room at the MET is also painted green. I wondered about that when I saw it, and now I'm wondering even more. Is t...

Thanks for the link. Is it me, or do the large rear cushions on the bank seating have an unfortunate, padded room quality?

I am wracking my brain to recall if there are perfs elsewhere. Can't think of any right now. The stairs leading down to the basement have perfs along the wall. On the basement stairs side there is frosted glass (colored), so that when the light for the basement stairs is turned on, what you see on ...

Roderick Grant and DRN--many thanks for the information. That's quite a portfolio of buildings Hasker Culwell put together. I've never seen the Arizona Price house, but the photos are compelling (except for those metal light fixtures. Where on earth did those come from?)

Many thanks, FTA, very helpful. So, I'm wondering if low-voltage would have come from the client? Or is that the kind of thing Wright would do if he could? Didn't know that about the basement. I wonder if some of that excavated rock was also used to form the road that contributes to the discovery pa...

I was wondering how the easement, which seemed to specify that no books could be removed from the home, allowed the piano to be sold.

Harold Price, Jr. Questions

Questions about Harold Price, Jr.: 1. I understand this house was built with low voltage lighting. Is that common in Wright houses of the time? Or only on the more upscale houses such as this one? 2. Which apprentice supervised construction? 3. The WWPeters addition on the rear of the home (“The K...
