Re: Who's going to Buffalo?

Control? DC? Yes and no.... National requirements for basic skills assessment testing, while well intended, has led at times to “teaching to the test” to the detriment of programming that focuses on critical thinking and informed decision making. There are significant disparities in the content of s...

Re: Who's going to Buffalo?

I shuffled off to Buffalo several times, in the summer and fall, (not the winter) and always enjoyed the visit. Lots to see, more each time in fact, and plenty of great places to dine and imbibe. But given the Delta Variant uncertainty with respect to breakthrough infections of the vaccinated, Chris...

Re: Article: Brizo FLW Bath Collection

Licensing fees are good, but the products need to be based on Wright’s designs, or at the very least, his principles. I don’t see these as doing that. The shower pool doesn’t know if it is a shower or a fountain...is one supposed to stand in the little hole in the center? Wright’s fountain had 3 hol...

Re: Article: Brizo FLW Bath Collection

The faucets are attractive as objects, some more than others, but I don’t see them as necessarily Wrightian. Why bring him into it? The advertising presentation is laughable. Staging the faucets as abstracted buildings in mock contoured site models does what? A faucet should be designed to complimen...

Re: Bagley House threatened

Of all the things to mess with...the symbolic part that spoke to the original owner’s position in the marble business. It would appear from the veining, that the original marble panels were removed and a milquetoast surround was installed. What are the chances this material was cut from the original...

I pay my “utility bill” quarterly. I believe membership status is irrelevant to this issue.

Re: Bagley House threatened

Thanks so much for finding and hosting all of these images SDR! The Steiner site has an ink and watercolor rendering of the house which are quite telling of Wright’s thoughts on the house...the octagonal library is prominent in the view. I find it interesting that the library on the construction dra...

Re: Wright Chat login issues

The above noted reset worked for me as well. I was concerned when I was prompted for the email address I originally registered with, as that address no longer exists. I typed the address I have received notification for PM’s with instead, and thankfully that worked.

Re: Article: Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired 3D Cement Tiles + Textile Blocks

Good to know...I suspect the Freeman blocks can't practically be restored, such that replacement/rebuild will be necessary for the exterior wythe at least. It couldn't hurt to offer the cast-off's as a means to offset some costs.

If Eso Surfaces is using the FLW name in its literature and having the FLW Foundation CEO agree to be quoted as part of it, they are paying licensing fees already.

Re: FLW's Banff Pavilion to be rebuilt

Wood treatment system? I suppose the building stewards will just hose the mud and raw sewage out and squeegee off the affected surfaces? What happens to the structure if a multi-ton Douglas fir tree (or two or three) caught in the torrent collides with the building? What if the water hangs around a ...

Re: Article: Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired 3D Cement Tiles + Textile Blocks

$75.00 per block plus shipping.... Obviously, this is high end décor, not a building material for the masses. Still, at $75./block multiplied by the 12,000 or so needed at Freeman, $900,000 plus maybe $120,000 for packing and shipping might be reasonable as a masonry material cost considering the co...

Re: FLW's Banff Pavilion to be rebuilt

For all the effort expended on developing software to model individual stones seen in hundred year old photos, as if individual fieldstones are to be replicated, you’d think the team might consider producing actual engineering, both civil and structural, if this building is to be safely and responsi...

Wright or Griffin?...maybe BOTH?

The recent publication of Lisa Schrenk's book about the culture and practices of Wright's Studio in Oak Pak caused me to reread the early pages of this thread from a different perspective. Instead of viewing Wright as the lone genius working in the vacuum of his mind sequestered in his study, might ...

Re: Article: Robert Lamp House - Madison, WI

The view shed protections would have needed to be introduced 30 or more years ago when the move toward 6-10 story development began in the neighborhood. Only a sliver of Mendota is visible from Lamp’s roof when leaves are off trees at this point. Importance should be placed on ensuring the house can...
