I received my copy from Amazon, and have thoroughly enjoyed the read to be sure. I just wish the book was a bit larger, I think it would have done more justice to the images. But all in all, it is a great read, and it is very nice to have a book about one of the greatest homes in my estimation ever ...

I wouldn't use any wood in the construction framework. I would use it inside as a natural accent, but stone and concrete are the building materials for me. No visible light bulbs in the lighting scheme. I also agree that with the observation made about houses being too 'tight" nowadays. My expe...

Mediterranean... here is my "censored" reply to that "What the heck!" Who in there mind would do that to such a beautiful building.... I am ashamed by this and think that the owner is out of his mind... he should reconsider. If you are buying property and hate the house then why...

Not to mention, the American businessmen who did thriving business with the Third Reich. They weren't bad-mouthing Hitler either. Some big fortunes from that period were inherited by several American politicians we could name- including 3 presidents. Not to mention the European businessmen and busi...

FLW said that anyone living in a period house - Tudor, Greek, Gothic, etc. - should be required to dress in a fashion appropriate to the style of the house. By that standard, the only people fit for this house would be the cast of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." "Let's do the time w...

Somebody should fix that wall so that ugly bracing is removed. That Taliesin should be in such desperate need of repair is sad.

Nice video, though. Thanks for sharing it.

The slide show obviously demonstrates he is a fan of the Boomer Residence and it's roof.

I always find it fascinating when city planners and "community experts" all think we all want to live in a metropolitan area.

Good luck! His houses look interesting. I wonder if there might be a connection to Pietro Belluschi? The one that is on NW Old Quarry Rd. is a real gem when you see it. The people that had it put a ton of work into it. I don't think it is painted the original colors as claimed, however. I can't fin...

I tried, but came up empty. May I ask why you are researching the architect? He designed a number of very interesting buildings in Portland, and the surrounding areas in the 50's and 60's and then just sort of disappeared. His homes designs are starting to pop up for sale here and there, most of th...

Thank you, Peter. :)

I am also looking for some historical bio information about Mr. Shell if possible. My internet searches only seem to highlight what you have shared.

Thanks,

John

Good for him, and an nice looking home.

I like the fact that the marker was put up there, probably saves him a little explaining from time to time by those respectful enough to read it.

Frank Shell

Does anyone here know where one might find more on this architect?

Some of his homes are for sale in the Portland, Oregon area currently to include his personal residence, but I haven't been able to dig much up on the man himself.

Thanks for any help,

John

A similar angle is to be found on the Walker countertops, only done in wood edging: It appears that the counters at Gordon might be a solid material like Corian, but it is difficult to see from the photo: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4141/4764554384_3314691624.jpg The countertops in the Gordon ho...
