The WSJ did that article last year on the Berger House. I was interviewed on the phone by a reporter who lived nearby. She asked me what was positive about living in it which I had plenty to say. But she wanted to know what was negative to which I couldn't think of anything ,even after thinking it o...

I just got back from China. One day we went into a "typical" home to see how a "middle class family" lives ,during which one of my tour mates stated "imagine having strangers go through your house all the time" to which I replied that it happened to me all the time. Nee...

I don't know where the story came from that we lived in a tent except that someone saw my dad's A frame tool storage shed and thought we lived in it. We rented a house down the road from the house.

I have met Deborah and my sister has had extensive talks with her regarding the value. I will talk to her.
The tile will stay with the house. There is much sentiment regarding the coffee tables( my dad made those as well)

When my mom moved out in 2003 we didn't want to leave the furniture and red tile at the house ,so I have been in possesion of them. The furniture in the real estate ad was the tenants ,who was a FLW fan.

The only furniture I have seen is the freestanding and built ins that my father Robert Berger built. The built-ins include the dining table, night stands, extensive countertops of formica in bedrooms and kitchen and, stainless steel. His joinery on every piece is perfect. As with all joinery in the h...

I also wondered when this point would be brought up. In the SF Bay area we had twice the number of "no burn days" due to our lack of rain compared to last year. New wood burning stoves in Sonoma County have to meet air emission standards. I have heard discussion that sometime in the future...

I have not previously read this discussion, but needless to say there is talk about FLW's use of steel in his structures. This summer I put a new roof on my parents house and had to repair some dry rot due to the criminal workmanship of the previous roofer. When I opened the sheeting I found 1/4i in...

Frank Lloyd Wright doors

In preparing the Berger House for the market I am wondering if there was a common trait with entry doors. My dad had always used a basic cheap paint grade mahagony door. The hardware was cheap also. After he died I replaced them with the same as my mother had limited funds. I am thinking of quarter ...

Steve ,Thank you posting the picture. The grate was the last thing my dad made before he got too sick. I was the last boy at home ,so I helped him. No doubt Aaron designed it. I'm sure it's in my dad's sketches .

The Berger Residence is now on the market for $2.5 million. Needless to say this is a sad time for my siblings and me as the house has been so intertwined in our lives. It will always stand as monument to the love and devotion a husband and wife had for each other and their commitment to carrying ou...

Thank you for your interest in our house. The house was built in 2 stages. First as you said the living area which we moved into in 1956 in which all 4 children slept in the future master bedroom and my parents on the couch. Aaron Greene assisted my dad by helping with some details;I have most of th...

The plan for my parents house(Berger) in this discussion is not how our house ended up. An accurate plan can be seen in the latter part of "Owner Built Wright Houses: Robert Berger House at www.prairiemodstuff.com/Berger
As far as I know this may be the only words of my father in print.
