Re: Article: Can the Pappas House become a museum?

Beautiful. Anyone here a member ? Can we have a report of what's seen, heard, etc, at the Pappas house , following the Annual Meeting ?

All of postwar Mercedes sports---Max Hoffman incuded

From an entertaining and informative "blogazine" out of Eugene, here's one of their best stories lately; Frank Lloyd Wright makes an appearance, via mad Max . . . https://www.curbsideclassic.com/curbside-classics-european/curbside-classic-mercedes-benz-w121-190sl/ (Only 25,000 190 SL models sold . ....

Re: Article: Historic Park Inn - Mason City, IA

Cocktails-to-go has taken hold---temporarily at least---for one thing. But the ambience and functionality of the bar scene is lost, in that instance. (I stopped going to bars when I gave up cigarettes, the same year that the Monographs were published. No connection, of course . . .)

Re: For sale: Robert Green house - Atlanta, GA

Unusual for architect Green ? The ceilings, the novel take on a post-and-beam aesthetic, the minor level change in the main space are all worth notice. Four different and mostly unrelated accent textures in the kitchen is unfortunate---but reversible (the little tiles gone would do it). Thanks for t...

Well, I look forward to receiving my copy. Thanks for your effort; without someone like yourself stepping up to the proverbial plate, we would be left in the dark about yet another worthy architectural also-ran . . .

Re: Video: CGI Lamberson House - Oskaloosa, IA

Well, there's a treat. And superior to so many videos of excellent digital models, in taking a slow pace and with long continuous shots. Thank you, Mr Beck ! Choosing to circumnavigate the house at, or just above, roof-fascia height turns out to have a distinct benefit for those seeking to comprehen...

Re: The roof over Kentuck Knob

When you find a thread that others might want to consult, nothing could be easier than copying the URL of the page---minus the search term, which will be highlighted unnecessarily in red throughout---and posting it in your response ?

I like what I see of that building. The precast elements are visibly stacked and invisibly connected, in a satisfactory way. Check out the wild balcony railing detail !

Re: The roof over Kentuck Knob

Huh. And only two years ago . . . http://sdrdesign.com/lamberson48set8.jpg I see three glazing conditions: glass sandwiched between wood, at left---the perforated window panels we call perfs; glass sandwiched between angles, at bottom---if I'm reading it correctly; sash with a single T, set between ...

Re: The roof over Kentuck Knob

I've seen no evidence of unusual sash detail in the Lamberson file. Granted, the house has a number of unorthodox elements; the off-center roof ridge does not result in pitches that are numerically related to each other (where the practice generally resulted in a pitch doubled on the steeper slope)....

Re: The roof over Kentuck Knob

The great majority of Usonians whose drawings I have looked at show no steel in vertical support members. One exception is the Lowell Walter house. Curtis Besinger has something to say about the hybrid wood/steel sash and doors that are seen in drawings for at least a couple of houses, one of which ...

So, what do you suppose that second piece of steel, parallel to the first, is doing at Berger ?
