Re: For sale: Mark Mills' O'Brien House (Fanshell Beach House) - Pebble Beach, CA
Compare the bedrooms at opposite ends of the plan: the master, nearest the carport and diminished in size by the entry loggia, places the bath behind the headboard, with the ceiling open above both functions. The master is also distinguished by having its own fireplace---in the Wrightian tradition. ...

When I remark that Wright's work typically suppresses or hides structure, I forget about spaces like the Hillside drafting room. Another example would be the very nearby (i.e., attached) Hillside School Assembly Room of thirty years earlier. http://sdrdesign.com/HillsideAssembly3.jpg http://sdrdesig...

Re: For sale: Kaneji Domoto house (Mermaid Ranch)- East Hampton, NY
Kiss it (potentially) goodbye: nothing prevents a new owner (as helpfully suggested in the article) from replacing this house, on $4.5 million of waterfront property, with a new monster home "with pool." Of course, nothing would prevent a new owner from adding a pool to this 100-foot-wide property, ...

Re: Sure, we can call anything "Frank Lloyd Wright"
Thanks, Nick. It sure looks like it to me. I delivered kitchens to several Deck Houses in the late 'sixties/early 'seventies, in woodsy suburban neighborhoods west of Boston. I'm trying to think of the name of the direct competitor to Deck House, also in New England, making a product very similar in...

Re: For sale: Richard Neutra's de Graff House - Portland, OR
Well, well. Most interesting. The big question for me: did the house have a hipped roof from the beginning, or was that added at some point later on ? Also of interest to me is the Hupp Skylark/Graham Hollywood in photo 5. This was the last gasp for the bodywork originally designed for the Cord 810-...

Melbourne. "Contemporary, Timeless, Nostalgic." Interesting to learn of the specific materials and manufacturers. I don't find the "corner windows" as shown to be inappropriate. One could quibble with the brick-as-wallpaper; we've seen Wright himself do the same, at Price Jr and elsewhere.

There is a Williamson house across the street from Nick Hayes's Elizabeth Murphy ASBH near Milwaukee. I can't seem to find the blog post where he discusses that find.

Re: Article: LA's Historic Commission recommends Rudolph Schindler's Oliver House as Monument
Thank you, Roderick and Craig. That has to be the book; odd that I remember it as smaller. When I went to purchase it at Amazon, it turned out not to be available. But I found one at a similar price on eBay, so it's on its way to me. I didn't recall it being a Spanish publication. Interestingly, a c...

Thanks. I speak of a different Scheine publication, one I'm curious to know if anyone here has ever seen . . . as described above.
Or perhaps I'm wrong. A copy-and-paste link to the relevant Amazon page would suffice; "copy" is Command+C and "paste" is Command+V on the keyboard.
