Re: Article: Eichler homes

But Asia includes Israel, Arabia, Armenia, all of the 'Stans' and even parts of non-Siberian Eastern Russia. What you are saying is that all of these terms are defined by the people they refer to as good or bad, which makes the whole exercise kind of ridiculous, doesn't it? In the early 60s, the ter...

Re: Bach, continued

I have had the pleasure only once of singing (in the chorus) the entire Mass. It was great fun! I know of no piece more sublime than the Dona Nobis Pacem. That performance was on a much grander scale than this recording, over 120 in the chorus and a full contingent of the Minneapolis Symphony. It is...

Re: Article: Eichler homes

I know that "Orientals" is one of those "never-utter" words, but considering that all it means is Eastern (we would Occidentals) I have never figured out why. A former co-worker of Japanese descent expressed her opinion. I asked her why she was opposed to the word, and she had no answer. A seemingly...

Re: FLW Designed Usonian Cat House (Not Cathouse) For Sale

Tom Olson (b 1930) has had a career in Minnesota since leaving Taliesin in 1961. He has designed some excellent houses in the Lake Minnetonka area, one of which was featured on a FLWBC tour in 2000. It is excellent. He certainly merits a book. Of the FLW commissions he supervised, the only one I kno...

Re: Video: Millard House - Pasadena, CA

I would love to see the bridge removed and the garden front of the house restored. Also, that window in the sleeping alcove of the Studio, which disrupts the symmetry of the façade has always annoyed me. There is another window in the space, plus ambient light from the main room. That window is not ...

Re: rain chains

The occasional standard downspout seen on some FLW houses, - like Fricke - could at least have been painted the same color as the background.

Re: The Martin House's Reintegration of Art Glass Continues

I wonder if Russell Kraus sent a letter to FLW: " Frank, I've designed some nifty Prairie art glass windows for my Usonian house. Do you mind if I use them?" FLW: "Well ... OK, go ahead."

Re: How Frank Lloyd Wright Influenced Japanese Architecture

Interesting article, perhaps the opening volley of an entirely new avenue of Wright Studies. Architecture historians have always been quick to note those influences from pre-Columbian America onward on FLW's work, but this is a 180.

Re: WHAT IS A PRAIRIE-STYLE HOUSE?

One historic fact the writer got right: Without the Chicago fire, which of necessity created the balloon-framed house, FLW's work would not have been what it was. He may have taken a different route to the same goal, but it would have been contrary to the method of construction of pre-fire Chicago. ...

The English house isn't bad ... a bit spare. But I wouldn't want a gaggle of orange worms hanging over the dining table.

Imagine that house with all of the art glass gone, nothing but plain plate. That was what it was mostly when I saw it in '85. Naked.

Re: AULDBRASS 2021

That isn't unusual. Many homeowners don't like having personal things photographed. When I photographed the Gillen House, I first asked the owner if it was OK to include interiors, and I emphasized that I would avoid any personal items. Mr. Guerin (second owner) was amazingly generous, and allowed i...

I am not a Facebook fan (or Meta Platforms, whatever they call themselves these days). I would like very much to see what is posted. Perhaps Stan can post them here?
