New Urbanism: Influenced by Wright?

I did a posting this evening on www.prairiemod.com about the Middleton Hills development. You can view it here: http://prairiemod.typepad.com/prairiemod/2006/03/a_place_where_t.html I'm fascinated by this concept of combating urban sprawl and have often fantasized about Wright's Broadacre City, but ...

The Bradley House, Kankakee

There have been some recent articles written about the Bradley House in Kankakee, IL that PrairieMod has discovered and we're wondering if any of you good folks have been out to the house in the past couple of months? Is there any news that can shared about the structure, restoration or owners? It a...

Two New Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Licensees

I made a post on PraireMod this evening about what appears to be some truly high quality, new FLLW products. You can view the info here: http://prairiemod.typepad.com/prairiemod/2006/03/two_new_fllw_li.html I'm aware of many mixed feelings regarding FLLW merchandise and this article at Jet Set Moder...

Re: how would FLW approach high school building design?

This is an interesting rumination and I am now going to formulate it into a group discussion exercise for a teenage seminar we are presenting in May at the Weltzheimer - Johnson House during Commencement weekend. This would be brilliant for teen discussion, at a Wright structure nonetheless! These ...

Wright & American High School Architecture

What if Frank Lloyd Wright designed and built an American High School during his career? This thought has been on my mind for several weeks now and I actually shudder everytime I pass a high school. They are almost like McMansions for education. You may view my weblog posting about it here: http://p...

Re: Wright Sighting in Sitcom

I pondered why such a beautiful, historic piece of furniture would be in a Generation Y slacker's apartment. Is this a sign of a burgeoning appreciation of FLLW among da yutes (outside of Chicago, pronounced "the youths")? Is this phenomenon limited to the Chicagoland area that has long b...

Those facts are indeed true. It really is a shame. While profiteers will always prosper (even FLLW couldn't beat them, though his impact is undeniable) it is important to educate our society. At least give them an understanding of what is going on. Many people are oblivious. The same thing can be sa...

3/2/06: 2 Generations from Wright

Don't know if anyone is familar with the careers of Frank Lloyd Wright's descendants, but we dug up some interesting info about Eric Lloyd Wright and Elizabeth Wright Ingraham. We at PrairieMod are very interested in their contributions to modern architecture while still practicing the principles th...

Our group goes because it's just fun to see some of these structures. I mean, last year we saw some good things and some bad things. It makes for great conversation.

Re: urban wright

erban, Good question. What would Wright do in the era of massive urban sprawl and multi-hour commutes? Would he still restrict his residential commissions to those people who had acreages? My guess is no. Perhaps he would have developed a residential solution that turned inward. One along the lines...

Re: genius vs. legacy

Looking at the article on the 'legacy' house near Cincinnati only reinforces my opinion that it's either the real thing or nothing. The differences between faux Wright and the real thing leap off the page. Ed, you bring up a great point. I personally love the idea of owning an original Wright home,...

It would take me exactly 30 seconds to get used to living in the Goetsch Winkler or Kentuck Knob. Make that 15 seconds. Those are houses at their finest. I do have to say that Kentuck Knob is spectacular! I was there in October 2005 and it was simply amazing. The land surrounding that home is breat...

Would you live in a FLLW house if you had the chance?

With the exception of Paul Harding (Paul, the renovation is looking marvelous), most of us who frequent Save Wright do not live in a Frank Lloyd Wright home. But what if we had an opportunity and the financial resources to buy, renovate and maintain an original of the master? Would we do it? I've pe...
