Work where you live where you shop
Oy oy. I kind-of weighed in on this on the Prairie-Mod blog. It is either down at the moment or blocked by my works server. It seems to me that one of the goals to all of this sprawl control is the idea that you'd work and shop close to where you live. Highly populated areas would seem much more liv...

CBS Sunday Morning 8/6/2006
Someone e-mailed me last night about a program that CBS ran on their Sunday Morning news program. Much of the subject matter this weekend revolved around design and architecture. There were some references to Philip Johnson. There was an entire segment on what it is like to live in a Wright home. Th...

Re: Beth Shalom
Fantastic photo, thanks for posting it. I just got the normal, frontal view the one time I happened by it (on a Sunday--I stupidly thought that a synagogue would be open on that day of the week--so I just got the outside). There are lots of photos in there. This comment isn't aimed at you, but just...

I saw a lot of parallel between the Lloyd-Jones and Turkel homes too. I'm not suprised that both would take a lot of money to maintain and heat/cool. There's a fine line between not letting people see in and not being able to see out. Both buildings had issues with that. Thanks for your comments. It...

If that is the same video that I've seen, it is pretty dang good. I purchased a copy of it (on VHS) a few years back when it was on the Wright Plus tour. They'd just finished the restoration. If I recal correctly, the vide was done by the owner's brother-in-law. It really looks at the whole process ...

The house looks right at home now the way they've done the landscaping. Obviously it still stands out amongst its neighbors. When you look at old photos of it or, like you say, the construction photos, it is easy to see how it was considered an eyesore. The history of that house and the relationship...

Turkel House Interior Photos.
Okay! Whoever the bozo is that runs that Frank Lloyd Wright Road Trip web site FINALLY got off his lazy butt and posted photos of the interior of the Turkel House. I'm allowed to call him a bozo, since I know him well. :D Background : Because of the web site I've found that people tend to send me st...

Your average house could not logically fit on the lot because of the shape. So, Euchtman asked FLW and he accepted. I agree with that. It would be tough to put a normal house on that lot. In my eyes, the design is perfect for a small family or just a couple. The orientation to the sun is perfect an...

The Mystery of the Joseph Euchtman House
http://www.peterbeers.net/interests/flw_rt/Maryland/Euchtman/images/IMG_7014.jpg As I read through books about Wright's homes, some of the things I find interesting is the amount of information that ISN'T known about particular Wright homes. One of the most mysterious is the Joseph Euchtman House (...

Thanks! I appreciate the comments. It is amazing how updating your web site once or twice per year bumps up your Google ratings. ;) As you saw, I did read that article. It made me mad. I'd done about half my research on the Marden house and then I found that article and the author said it all so muc...
