To my knowledge, the Richardson house is no longer for sale. Edith Payne found a buyer within a month and those owners are still happily in the house.

It took me a moment to discover what I was seeing, in the Richardson photo: a screened-in carport. The kitchen windows are at left:

Rather than descending to a central point, as in the living room, here the ceiling appears to be flat.

Nice deduction. That explains the park-like furniture which would otherwise be very odd. So, this means that all comers must circulate thru this enclosed porch to locate the front door to the house.
The screens to the right have a horizontal rail but to the left they do not.

The current owners have furnished the carport/screen porch with weather tolerant furniture as well. The screen porch makes a pleasant transition from outdoors to indoors and provides a particularly gracious NNW oriented room for outdoor entertaining in the late spring to early fall.

As I understand it, the Richardsons built the house about 10 years after it was designed at a different site. The new site was not configured, or more importantly, graded to be practical to use the carport as a carport. It was screened instead and a screen porch connecting to the living room Wright had designed a'la Pope was not constructed, or if it ever was, it was not retained.

DRN, was the small pool constructed, and if so, does it still exist?

The pool was not constructed...the access to the porch from the exterior is at that point.

That reconfigured entry sequence, resulting in the new "front door" occurring in a symmetrical configuration, would have amused -- or irked -- Mr Wright ? The resulting triangular "stoop roof" has a big hexagonal cut-out, rendering it useless as shelter.

Bill Schwarz told me that the man who installed triangular sheets of tempered 3/16" glass at the Mathews residence, walked on them with impunity after installation. I was shocked.
