Banned by McCarthy because of his membership in the Communist Party, Niemeyer was never allowed back in to the U.S. to see the completed house, (his only one in the U.S.) Michael and Gaby Boyd rescued the house from certain demolition.

The Boyd's collection of modern design is astonishing. By now, it is widely recognized that their collection exceeds that of MOMA. And then there's the incredible library, filled with rare out of print design and art books from all over the world...
