Good point about composers...don't tell the WGA, but the same is true of screenwriters.

Haven't recent books on Craig Elwood basically stated that he couldn't draw a lick and his designs were all done by an associate?

I knew he wasn't licensed -- didn't know he didn't draw.

He had forebears. H H Richardson directed his work through the pencils of and pens of others (though his rich little early sketches are highly evocative of the eventual results) and Walter Gropius drew poorly or not at all, as I recently learned.

gropius is an interesting example. what he lacked in talent and real training, he made up for in stirring rhetoric, intelligence, charisma and sophisticated social theory. the collective nature of early bauhaus ideas de-emphasized the individual romantic genius, and put the focus on problem solving and integration of art and architecture.
examples like the george nelson office are direct descendants of the bauhaus model, but without the radical political theory.

craig ellwood, i think, is unfortunately just mies lite. even his name is fake. his real name was jon nelson burke, and named himself after a liquor store!!!
he used another architect to do all of the engineering and computations. a real hollywood figure, craig ellwood.
