The 1997 movie, "Gattaca," will air on PBS this Friday.
I didn't see this; is it worth it?

I watched the whole thing the other night. In a word, probably not. Pieces of the MCCC are used attractively, if not extensively; a couple of other modern
buildings and the brief appearance of a Studebaker Avanti do not really make up for a lackluster story---in my opinion. But I wouldn't call it a bomb.

I saw this movie years ago.
From what I remember I was expecting a little more than it delivered.

Well, I sat through it. Dullest movie I have seen since "My Night at Maud's."
It must have taken minutes to write the screenplay.

People who are a little (or a lot) too sure of themselves typically detest others who meet that description. Viz., Gore Vidal and the equally unctuous W F Buckley, Jr . . .?

The latter didn't claim membership in the actors' union, to his credit. His act was on parade, all the time.

Actually, AFTRA (now conjoined with SAG) forced Buckley to join the union, a move Buckley fought, claiming he was not an actor. He lost.

Huh. Maybe everyone on TV is a member of some union . . . it hadn't occurred to me.

Everyone in "the business" - director, writer, actor, hair & makeup, grip, camera, script supervisor, musician - has his/her own union under the umbrella of IATSE, which has 140,000 members. It is very hard to gain entrance into the unions, especially SAG-AFTRA, and if you aren't in, you don't work.
