When it premiered in '93, some of the FLWBC members who attended were underwhelmed by the quality of the music. But I think that had more to do with the modern sensibilities of composer Daron Hagen and librettist Paul Muldoon than anything else. To FLW's Beethoven-trained ear, modern music might have a foreign sound, but non-Wright critics gave it good reviews. A CD was recorded, but never released, much to Hagen's consternation ... and mine.
