Let's compare a before and after and see what is referred to as a "blank lot":

Yes, if "blankness" means a beautiful green space filled with wildlife and the public enjoying a wonderful piece of the Lakefront that was previously off-limits unless you were in the private jet set then it's a pretty blank place indeed.

One must know what they are talking about before they cast aspersions, methinks.

I don't see wildlife or the public lolling about, enjoying a wonderful piece of the lakefront.

I was referencing Google maps, which showed a blank, undeveloped south end of the island at the time. Now the satellite map has been updated to 2019, and still shows nothing usable.

Is your second image a photo of the island or an artist's rendering of what is to be? If that is the way it actually looks, they have been very busy in the past 51 days... trees, wildlife and lollers yet to come.

Aspersion recast.

I applaud everything that has been done with Northerly Island. Prairie habitat restoration doesn’t happen overnight, but in a few years this will be spectacular. And yes, Roderick- people do use and enjoy this:

peterm, you seem to be referring to the northerly end of Northerly Island. The entire airport was to the southerly end of Northerly, where it seems nothing has been done since the demolition. The north end was never in question; is anything there new?

A simple Google search results in many articles, such as this one, which comes with 45 photos of the southern end of the park's development and opening.... Lollygaggers included!

The city did a very nice job with this project. If other politicians want to follow this model, of "stealing from the rich and powerful" to give more beautiful greenspace to the public, sign me up.
