The problem with modern society is that if you cannot cash it and put it in the bank, it has no value.

Not all members of modern society agree with that blanket condemnation. I certainly don’t. Most of us here at WC find great value in ideas and non commercial creative acts, thoughtful art, music and design, and are not necessarily outsiders. And there is plenty of art that exists outside of the corporate capitalist system. One needs to search it out.

Talk with some people under 30. Why else would they care about things like climate change, the environment and the future of our species? To put it in the bank?

It sounds like you’re giving up on humanity.

Wright’s list could be a guide for any human being, artist or not. It’s interesting that he combines faith and rebellion. Maybe they are two sides of the same coin?

Apparently, Peter, you don't find any value in generalizations. I suppose I could count all the examples of high-mindedness and crass commercialism and find a percentage?

I find little value in negativity, pessimism and resignation.

They are the antithesis of high mindedness.

(That would be 'antitheses.')

Pessimism and optimism are obverse sides of cynicism; realism is the only truth. One can be as hopeful about the state of things as one wants, but to ignore the troubling aspects of things is a form of willful blindness. You, for instance, are a fount of negativity when it comes to the state of the nation, without a hint of positivity or high-mindedness. Try to find something you don't have to kvetch about for a change.

According to a note on page 40 of the Weltzheimer issue of the Allen Memorial Art Museum Bulletin, the above-mentioned list of attributes is found on page 464 of the 1943 edition of the Autobiography,
as "the essential attributes for a Fellow" (i.e., a Taliesin apprentice).

To quote Wright directly:

"FELLOWSHIP ASSETS

[the list of 10, in small caps, Roman-numerated]

These human attributes of Fellowship when inspired by love will eventually evoke THE CREATIVE CONSCIENCE."
