Unbelievable
Heartbreaking.
Looks like the whole thing is toast.

Suspicious ? As in, someone thinks there's a better use for this urban site than an aging and out-of-date art school ?

I admit that had occurred to me. I hope Glaswegians' pride in this relic would have made such a thought impossible, there -- but I suppose that's just silly romanticism talking . . .

That’s possible.
I don’t know regarding motives, but something is off guard at the GSoA regarding fire prevention, no doubt.
Just does not strike me as coincidental.
I have a suspicious mind.

So, two of you find this event to be "suspicious," at this early hour. Now I'm intrigued.

The restoration following the 2014 fire -- could it really have been four years ? -- is nearly complete, and we have a Friday-evening fire that devastates the bulk of the building. So, what are you imagining ?

I am imagining a person dressed in black twirling a mustache with a match and gasoline can and the need to disperse evil upon Glasgow.
It could be a new Netflix series.

... but not all "conspiracy theories" are created equal. At this point I have no speculation. But like RG, it does strike me as not merely coincidental, like WTC7 and the magic bullet.

RG, what say you?

... and it's not just the library this time.
It's the entire complex - absolutely gutted judging by the aerial you posted.

I can absolutely imagine some black dressed evil mustache twirling real estate developer with a match and a gas can.

I'm not sure I see why this one should be more suspicious than any other building fire. But we'll know, sooner or later, I suppose; they'll get the the bottom of it as they always seem to do . . .

Im sure you are right.
Bad form to speculate about anything even as a joke until
the investigate is concluded.
I have not been following this - have lives been lost?

Personal injury or death has not been mentioned in what I've read; knowing the news-media priorities I'd say that rules them out.

SDR, who said only the second fire was suspicious? The scope of the second conflagration is what suggests to me that someone decided to go the extra mile to make sure the whole place burned down. Why? That's the conundrum.

Your conundrum is based on the assumption that the 2014 fire was an act of arson.

What happened during the Mackintosh Building fire in 2014?

In 2014 a fire sparked by a student project ripped through the famous building, going up through the vertical shafts and destroying huge parts of the interior.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6547246/glasgow-school-of-art-fire-2014-cause-mackintosh-building-library-destroyed/

A more complete account from a perhaps more reliable source:

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2014/nov/26/glasgow-school-of-art-fire-foam-canister-report

Assuming that not one but both fires were intentional is a stretch -- at this point ?

Lady Bracknell: "To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness."
