Ok, here is another update on the blog. This is a q&a session with Marika and Tony. I think it answers a lot of questions and will provide some insight into a few things like why the climate control was put in and where the bathroom tiles came from.
They are talking with West Michigan Modern about having an open house in the spring and I will gladly keep you updated on that. They are going to see if they can get a couple of the other owners to open up their homes too.

Thank you, Fred. Your work clearly makes up for that of a large cohort of ignorant or indifferent members of the profession. It was clear from your first post here that you were devoted to the task of saving this house and getting it into the right hands -- which you accomplished, after much work and worry, in spades !

The interview with the owners answers many questions while revealing them to be extraordinary stewards of architecture. Wouldn't it be fine to have an open house in the neighborhood ? Let's hope that comes to pass. In the meantime, happy holidays to you and yours . . .

Thank you very much for those kind words.

An update...... the new owners received a box of items from the Eppstein family. In this box there are lots of pictures some show Dorothy working on the construction of the house and installing the blocks for the walls. Also, there are letters from FLW and blueprints for furniture that was never made. The owners are having 6 chairs made for the house from these prints. They will be compiling some info on this for an article.
As for the renting of the home...... it is going better than they had expected and the guests have been wonderful. A couple of photographers have rented the home for photo shoots and the pics have been fantastic.
The home currently has 26 guests that are either booked or have already completed a stay.

The photography is terrific. Beautiful job throughout.
It's good that this house is in a rural setting. The Airbnb system is getting a lot of heat with their urban rentals. Complaints about the Hollywood Hills rentals and the partying crowds they attract are going to force city government to put the kibosh on the whole shebang. But Eppstein, being where it is, will undoubtedly attract a more refined lot of renters.

Refined lot of renters in Galesburg, the bedroom exurb of Kalamazoo?
Fun to drink beer and eat cheese with? Yes. Refined? eh...

Refined insofar as they are likelier to be quiet and respectful of their environment, DRN. Your refinement tastes might begin and end with a sip of sherry and a cello solo, but beer and Velveeta can work just as well.

Where I come from in southeast Delaware County, PA, refined is sipping one's Thunderbird from a chilled hubcap.

I suppose we will have to say it is in Charleston Township from now on to give it a more upscale location to attract better guests because $300 a night isn’t enough to weed out the riffraff?
