It's not entirely impossible that these are Harris's colors ...

This is a wonderful house, complying with the demands of a very irregular lot. It is impossible to see, Googley. Directly across the street is the legendary How House by Schindler. Great neighborhood.

Lisa Germany likens Hawk to Harris's contemporary Blair house. Is it in the same neighborhood, Roderick ?

Oddly, Blair is not listed in the Gebhard / Winter Guide, the bible here in LA. Nor is a specific site given for Blair in the Harris book. There are many sites in LA where Blair might fit, but I am inclined to believe it is on the Valley side of the Hollywood Hills, while Hawk is in Silver Lake. The downhill side of Blair faces north, and I am sure it is not the south side of Silver Lake.

Blair was on the market not so long ago, and was posted on WC. That would give the street address.

Blair and Hawk, which were contemporary, share similar massing to accommodate similar sites, but Blair is a better design. Hawk is hemmed in by neighbors, while Blair has more elbow room.

There are two previous threads on Blair, but the only real estate listing is kaput. Here's a useful reference found on the earlier one:

The threads; one contains Harris's list of house-design desiderata:

There is a hint to the location, though not an address, in Esther McCoy's book "The Second Generation," page 54. Turns out Blair is located about where I suspected, in the hills above Studio City, east of Laurel Canyon. That's about 8 miles from Silver Lake, as the crow flies. About 50 minutes, as the car crawls.

The area is densely built up, so even though the layout of the house might easily be detected as 3 rectangles, without a street name at least, it would be very difficult to find.

The Blair House is located at 3763 Fredonia Drive, Los Angeles. This is the valley side of the Hollywood Hills overlooking Cahuenga Pass.

Thanks, josquin. Google aerial views are less and less fun; in this case all semblance of a reasonable-resolution image of the house is lost, in a mudslide of gabled pixels. Nevertheless:

From the street view, other than the garage (which no longer has grass on the roof, but drought-resistant plants) it is impossible to see anything other than the stair and base of the funicular track.

From the aerial view, the fake trees are what take all the fun out of it.
