Perhaps "trained" is the wrong word. I should have written: "... you don't have to be college-educated to be an architect."
Perhaps "trained" isn't all that wrong. When I went to college, Mies ruled the roost, and anything students submitted that wasn't in the Miesian Mode did not fare well with the professors ... which included Ralph Rapson and Leonard Parker. |

lol- don't forget you're referring to a magazine that recently featured two of the Kardasians! No, they probably don't know the difference. Its a magazine that exists primarily to promote consumerism rather than design. |

Mr and Mrs Alfred Newman House, 14148 Sunset Blvd, Pacific Palisades; 1949, 1951-2
The exterior photo is grand. I don't know what to make of a brick truss (?) next to the fireplace . . .

As the original client might have said, "What, me worry?" |

The Newman House is an excellent piece of architecture, and should be properly credited. At least they could have said "Frank Lloyd Wright, Jr."
I doubt AD has editors and am sure they don't have proofreaders.
That waterfront house in FL? Almost comical. |

Yes. Maybe brick Contact Paper---if you remember that stuff . . . ?
The second-to-last entry in the chronological list of works in Alan Weintraub's monograph is another Newman residence, for a David Newman, in 1977:
And here are images of the Alfred Newman residence, from the same source:

Same family of composers, a Los Angeles dynasty. Alfred Newman won mulitiple Oscars from the 40s through the 60s. His son David Newman, who has written tons of scores, has the other Lloyd Wright house that you posted. David’s sister, Maria, is also a film composer, as is his brother, Thomas, who happens to be my favorite living film composer. I think Randy Newman (“Short People” and “I love LA”) is a cousin. Freaky talented family!

Thomas Newman’s incredible, haunting end title theme to Revolutionary Road. It doesn’t get much finer. |

Even though Moran’s earlier works were steeped in the avant-garde and twelve tone tradition, his later stuff sounds more like pop minimalism (Philip Glass, etc.) by way of Copeland. |

But I've always liked Desert of Roses and it's light touch. _________________ "taste is less important than non-conformity"
