The only time I visited Graycliff, the chapel the priests added to the front of the building. Now that it's gone, and the huge windows expose views right through the house, I have to make another sojourn before I die.

I think this is an underrated house. Many critics refer to FLW's houses as lacking domesticity. That cannot be said about Graycliff.

I think they are speculating about the size of Graycliff. I don't recall seeing any reference to it concerning size when I read the Martin Papers in '84. That the house was bigger than the Martins wanted is supposition. Consider what the wealthy of that era called 'cottages' in Newport, RI.

I think it would be accurate to say when reviewing the series of plan modifications between 1926 and 1928 that the house initially was conceived at about two thirds the final size. The chauffeur's house was likewise enlarged by Wright by the Martin's request in pre crash 1929, and a boiler house was added while Wright was on site in May of 1927 at Darwin D. Martin's request.

The reason for the enlarged house was mostly the Martin's doing, Wright occasionally insisted on an enlarged area (as was the case with the kitchen / pantry)

Although the bulk of interior restoration is complete, there is still work to be done on interior furnishings, landscape and beach access. The article is not accurate in making statements that everything is complete.
