Architect/author's "Inner Dialogues" blog section of site includes van Fossen, Gunning photos, and mentions Modmom1's Glenbrow renovation (2014). Interesting guy, blog also has a piece on Wright apprentice Fred Langhorst's and wife Lois's San Francisco partnership. Apparently he descended into alcoholism and she kept up the practice, often ceding design credit to him (his "associate" in publications); predictably sad ending. Blog attributes her with innovating the ubiquitous kitchen "island"....

Yes and if you look at the preview there are only small amounts of text with huge areas of white around them. I have created books on these type of self-publishing sites. They do not cost this much to produce for sale.

Thanks, Craig. I agree. Or... I could get all my Fred Lloyd Wright books together and sell them to buy this one. Those Fred Lloyd Wright ones... umm... it seems like there's something fishy about them... dunno.... Surprised

I recall the young realtor I met at a party in Sonoma, in the 'nineties, who said she was going to be showing a client a "Frank Lloyd" house somewhere up there. There isn't a California Wright residence north of San Anselmo, as far as I know . . .

SDR, perhaps she meant Fred Lloyd? Or as a dealer in shop once told me as I questioned his sketchy attribution of a chair to a well-known and well-documented designer, "Well, who else could it be?" Who else indeed!

"Educating Frank Lloyd Wright, 1885-1889," a massive 3-volume set of self-published books at $180 per book, had enough blank paper to condense the books to half their size. I knew the author, Bob Koppany, III, from Hollyhock House, and thought he might have something to offer, but the text was not worth the cost.

He later authored and published another book, "Breaking Wright's Grid," for only $24.95, which has some interesting illustrations, including the DD Martin "Floricycle" plan. He tries to show how virtually all things FLW worked on from his brief college days to the end can fit into a rectilinear grid. Not all the attempts are convincing.

There is no indication of the size of these books in the Amazon ads, but I suspect they are the second printing, which was significantly smaller in scale, maybe 2/3 the size of the first printing. I don't recall the price of the reduced books, but it was significantly less than the $180 of the first printing. Size was the only difference. The text was unaltered, as far as I could discern.
