Aaron Betsky writes that bloviating designers do their buildings a disservice.

No lecture should last longer than 45 minutes to an hour ... depending on how entertaining the talker is (45), and how fetching the visuals are (60). At one FLWBC Conference in Iowa, a speaker went on for over 2 hours. The person set to follow her became so frustrated that he walked out. When organizers tried to convince him to stay, he took his carousel of photos, turned it upside down, dumping all the photos on the floor, and said, "Oops!"

Bloviating was defined by President Warren G. Harding as "The art of speaking for as long as the occasion warrants, and saying nothing." Too many lecturers seem to follow that definition without realizing it.

Oh, yay. My esteem of Mr Betsky has just soared; home-town boy makes good. Finally: someone takes what have to be long-held feelings and gives
them a healthy airing. Architects the world over, take note . . .

And he has the courage to include Mr Wright right up front in his list, his presidency of the school bearing the man's name notwithstanding. A new day dawns ?

On the other hand, he did write, "I . . .have happily poured over photographs and drawings. . ."

Once and for all: it's "pored" . . . "pored over photos" . . . (Middle English; possible past tense of peer)

He didn't "pour" the photographs over the floor, he "dumped" them.
Dump, Middle English for "Give the heave-ho."

Notwithstanding the fact the school no longer bears the man's name.
