The short story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminaire_House

Nice to know that this structure will be appreciated in southern California, if not in New York. This piece describes the genesis, and the Aluminaire's predecessor, the Weekend House (also built in New York).

When finished with that subject, the adjacent column presents Lloyd's first house commission, for W J Weber house, in Los Angeles (1921).

I have always had a soft spot for Aluminaire, and for Frey.

The Weber House is very handsome. Needs some work in the back end, in the kitchen, but otherwise it's in great shape. I haven't been in it since the last century, but the owner seemed to me committed to doing well by the house.

Lloyd's and John's first houses were both very Prairie. One is tempted to imagine that they had to "get that out of their system" (as my mater used to say) before moving on . . . ?

More useful information on Frey and company. The Aluminaire house was presented to the world at the Grand Central Palace. Though Robert H Ritchings worked for years on the 38th floor of the Chrysler Building, I do not recall hearing of this structure:
