Plate 8 -- the earlier version of the house. Note closet and bath at entry, with a third-level roof above (for bath clerestory light and ventilation ?). The studio (main space) has corner glazing floor to ceiling.

Hi,
Thank you so much for the scans.
This will help me a lot.
I was wondering if you could scan the index of the book ?
Are there sections or pictures of details of the structure in the book affordable dreams ?
Is there text about the masterplan Usonia II ?
I also noticed that i'm missing a house. On the masterplan there are 8 houses, but on the scans I can find 7 (including goetsch-winckler house).
Dou you have the floorplan of that missing house ?
Can it be that the Panshin house is now called Nathan Rubin house and is built in Canton Ohio in 1951 ?
Is this the same Brauner hous as in the masterplan usonia II :
http://www.peterbeers.net/interests/flw_rt/Michigan/Brauner_House/brauner_house.htm ?

The book has no index. Here is the table of contents, and the bibliography.
The 27-page essay by Anatole Senkevitch, Jr, seems to have the answers to most of your questions. I will not be scanning that. You needed to have found this book at the beginning of your project. (To satisfy my own curiosity, was this a subject you chose yourself, or was it assigned ? What is the school you attend, and what is the name of the course ?)
I will post a couple of G-W drawings that I have already scanned.
The note to Plate 2 makes mention of the eighth and unknown house. No client is named, and no drawing is shown.
There were at least two versions of the Brauner house; the earlier version is shown on the site drawing, while the final version is the one shown in Peter Beers's photos -- which should be self-evident.
W A Storrer notes that the Rubin house is a mirror image of Panshin.

Hi,
Ones again thanks for your help !
The course name is RESEARCH PROJECT.
We could choose to make a research about the Usonian houses of Frank Lloyd Wright or the Iconic houses of Gwatthmey & Siegel.
I choose the Usonian houses, because i'm very interested in low cost houses combined with nice architecture. Also the sustainable aspect of his houses realy intrest me.
I took the Goetsch-Winckler house because it was one of his first usonian houses and considered one of his best. There also not much in books about this house (to make it difficult for myself, but more intresting finding things out).
The name of my school is Hogeschool voor wetenschap en kunst Sint lucas departement architectuur (translated : university for science and art SINT LUCAS department of architecture). Short = SINT LUCAS. Its considered the best architecture school in Belgium.

Thanks for that information, Robin. I wish you well with your studies, and hope you will share what comes from the present research on the Okemos work.
Incidentally, the following house is currently on display at the site designboom. It seems to owe something to the seminal residences of Gwathmey Siegel:

Also of possible interest to you, a favorite and increasingly popular (furniture) design site, designaddict, is based in Belgium. The site features a chat forum,
and a growing encyclopedia of design source links.

Some years back, I gave a tour through Hollyhock House to a group of architects and architecture students from Belgium. Every one of the older gentlemen was conversant on the subject of Frank Lloyd Wright, but not a single student had known anything about Wright before visiting the house. It's good to hear that Wright is once again being studied in Belgium. |

Thanks for making me aware of this thread.
I was looking for something about the structure/construction of the house and roofs. This looks very interesting.
If my research is finished I will post everything I have found.
Thanks again

Hi,
I have read all the text about the plates you gave me and I saw some interesting plates I could use for my research. If its posssible to scan these it would be great. I don't like asking you this, because you gave me allready so much. So I won't feel hurt if you don't have the time to do this.
PLATE 16 (roof framing)
PLATE 26 (studio chair and stool)
PLATE 28 ( rendered floorplan addition house)
PLATE 29 (perspective ) |

I will surely do it. It's nice that I have all evening to get it done; Robin's in bed by now, I should think. . .
I'm doing things for two clients now, and both projects are needed Saturday. Whew. . .

Okay -- here we are: Plates 16, 26 and 28. I add Plate 17, the millwork details. You have already seen Plate 29 (view of G/W II), page 2 of this thread, near top. I have now labeled those plates.
Plate 28

I find I have two Brauner plans. Here they are in chronological order (I believe).
