Her brief memory of interacting with Wright is interesting.
Given his generation and the 1914 fire, one could see some reason for Wright to have been highly racist.

He wasn't racist, but he was, for the most part,"architectist." One of the few architects he was friendly toward was Paul Williams (1894-1980), a prominent black architect who designed many of the houses of rich celebrities, as well as the LAX Theme Building with Pereira & Luckman and Welton Beckett.
That's Williams with FLW in the oft-published photo in the Barnsdall dining room, with FLW's foot resting on the chair. |
