I drove by and thought the house looks good in situ. Roderick, I don't believe commercial creep will be a problem. On the block to the west(?) there is a garden center, but to the east(?) is residential. The adjacent lot on the corner is available , and would go along nicely, as opposed to an unsympathetic structure. I hope for the best...

Yes, parts of Mason City have experienced flooding but not as bad as 2008 when a couple hundred houses near East Park were inundated and had to be moved or torn down.Roderick Grant wrote:By the way, Paul, I see Mason City is in danger of flooding. Has the deluge arrived?
Rock Glen is located at the bend of Willow Creek. The Schneider House by WBG received about 2" in its lower level. No other houses were affected.
The Alvin Miller House in Charles City by FLW, adjacent to the Cedar River, has not experienced any water damage as of Friday morning when I went over there to inspect. The river was within about ten feet from the house. Interior furnishings have been elevated. Owner due into town Sunday evening.

Perhaps there are more useful maps or graphics to illustrate the topography and the architecture . . .?

I find Bing Maps Birdseye View more interesting:

...also because it is immediately adjacent to Willow Creek and set lower than the adjacent houses.Roderick Grant wrote:The Schneider House must be the most vulnerable, being, as it is, below street level.
This house was purchased last December and the present owners were informed as to the possibility of flooding. This house has the most beautiful views of the creek and the park (from the living room) of all of the houses.

Christopher Enck. Bought the house for $10 with the caveat that he moved it. I'd say he got his money's worth ...Paul Ringstrom wrote:sWho is the architect/owner?

A couple months ago, Chris Enck held an open house for Van Bergen and Wright owners and we got invited. The house is beautiful with lots of great light. The deep pour basement is rather amazing with much useable space. There is room to put in a garage if desired. Chris grew up going to a Chicago Public School designed by Van Bergen and did not want to see this home demolished. Whole Foods deserves much credit for letting Chris use their parking lot for the house to sit before it was put in the current location. What a great story and he is an architectural hero!
