I am looking for information on Harold Turner and the houses he built on his own, in southeastern Michigan.

Brief mention of Harold Turner is made in "Usonian Houses" by John Sergeant. I believe he was trained as a shop teacher, and I don't know how he started building for Frank. Every once in a while one of his homes comes up on the market. Currently 3960 Mystic Valley Drive, in the Township, is for sale. His home was on the east side of Telegraph, near Gilbert Lake. He and his wife used to run the restautant "Devon Gables" nearby. I'm in Birmingham. Can I reach you at the Affleck House or LTU?

And I repeat: what is it about tiny, compressed, amateurish, pixelated photos which get real estate agents so excited? Those look like they were taken on a camera phone.
How many escape pods are there? "NONE, SIR!" You counted them? "TWICE, SIR!"

Gene

I have called Lawrence Tech a couple of times to see about touring the house (Affleck) and each time they have told me that it is under renovation and not open for tour at present time. Do you have any idea when or if tours of the house are possible?

Gene Diggs;
What kinf of information are you looking for ? Harold turner built my Grandparents house on Mystic Drive in Bloomfield Hills. I am currently getting my family to dig up picutres of the house from back in the 50's and 60's.
My Grandfather knew Harold Turner through the lumber business and he commissioned the house in 1950 for my Grandparents.

Also would make a great spot to build a new home on this wooded lot in a central location.

That's sooo 2008.

Here is a partial list of homes Turner built in Michigan after he went on his own: I cannot distinguish between Bloomfiled Twp, Bloomfield Hills or West Bloomfield...
5530 Shadow Lane, Bloomfield Mich (north off Quarton, east of Telegraph)
5495 Shadow Lane and possibly 5490 Shadow Lane
4090 Overlea Court, Bloomfield, Mich (just north of Shadow Lane area)
4050, 4040, 4014, 4007, 4000 Overlea Court (many Turners together but mailboxes are ganged so hard to tell which address goes with which house.
3960 Mystic Valley, Bloomfield Mich (already referenced earlier posts)
1475 Lone Pine Road (west of Telegraph sits on a hill south side of street)
1470 Clarendon (south of Lone Pine west off Wing Lake Road)
1539 Lochridge Road. Bloomfield Mich (north of Long Lake rd, west of Franklin rd -sits on north side of Lower Long Lake)
1387 Club Drive Bloomfield Mich (as above on Lower Long Lake)
3 homes in Grand Blanc on Meadowood 6325 and two more next door.
the cottage built for his sister at 7510 Valhalla Drive overlooking the Thornapple River near Grand Rapids....

This house was my Grandmothers home until 1969, we lived at 3791 W. Pemberton Rd. just up the street. Turner built our home in 1954-55 when they did own Devon Gables Restaurant. When I returned from Viet Nam in 1970 the property was divided up, when my grandparents lived there, there was no other house like it, I know, I had to cut the grass, take care of the rock garden. The only thing I didn't like was the roof issues, flat roof's can be troublesome. The house did not have a garage, it was a carport. The huge picture windows offered a view to the North. The house was originally Pink in color and in the dining room was a huge mural painted by an artist depicting a Florida scene. The property bordered W. Long Lake Rd and across the street was Andover High School. We knew the Turners well
